    Abstract: A flexible gas sensor includes a housing with a predetermined form factor, a photoacoustic gas sensing chamber, and at least one of acoustic, temperature, relative humidity or pressure sensors in combination with processing circuitry which can emulate the characteristic gas response output of a catalytic bead pellistor-type gas sensor in response to a selected gas. The processing circuitry can include a programmable processor and a storage unit. The storage unit can be loaded with data and executable instructions to specify, at least in part, how the signals from the photoacoustic sensor are to be processed by the processing circuitry.

Hierbei wird ein Laser zwischen zwei seiner ihm eigenen Resonanzlinien hin- und hergeschaltet, wobei eine der Wellenlängen einem Absorp­tionsmaximun, die andere Wellenlänge einem Absorptionsmini­mum des zu detektierenden Gases entspricht. Aus dem Verhält­nis der Intensitätsabschwächung bei den beiden Wellenlängen wird die Extinktion E und damit die Konzentration des zu untersuchenden Gases hergeleitet.

    Abstract: A method for the time-differentiated detection of a spectrum of a test object comprises providing a first conversion dye, which is configured to convert light with a first spectral distribution in the visible range into light with a second spectral distribution in the infrared range. The first conversion dye is excited with a light pulse in the range of the first spectral distribution during a first time period, and a light fraction, reflected or transmitted by the test object, in the range of the first spectral distribution is registered during a first time interval. During a subsequent second time period, a fraction of converted light reflected or transmitted by the test object is registered. According to the invention, the first time interval is selected so that it lies substantially inside a luminescence lifetime for the first conversion dye in the first time period.

    Abstract: What is disclosed is a method and a system for (trace) gas analysis, specifically NH.sub.3 analysis in flue gases exhausted from power plants or in industrial waste gases. In this method and system, a laser is reversed between two of its intrinsic resonance lines whereof one wavelength corresponds to an absorption maximum and the other corresponds to an absorption minimum of the gas to be detected. The extinction E and thus the concentration of the gas under analysis is derived from the ratio of the values of intensity attenuation at the two wavelengths.
