Abstract:
A disposable electrode, mainly intended to be fixed on the skin of a patient for noise-free signal detection of body signals and including a carrier element, one side of which is provided with an electric contact and the other side of which carries an adhesive layer and forms the front surface of the carrier element intended to adher in electrical contact to the skin, wherein the adhesive layer of the front surface of the carrier element has at least one opening in which is fitted a carbon-containing element arranged directly to contact the material of the carrier element.
Abstract:
An instrument for monitoring foetal heart rate having a head member (2) for application to the foetal scalp, the head member (2) having two jaws (24,25) which are hingedly connected to one another, the first jaw (24) having an arcuate electrically conductive needle (9) extending therefrom and movable therewith for penetration of the foetal scalp. A wire (6) extends from the needle (9) to a terminal for connection to monitoring equipment. A second wire (7) is insulated from the first (6) and extends between an exposed electrode sheath (11), for contacting the mother in use, and a terminal for connection to monitoring equipment. The instrument also has actuating means, in the form of a telescopic arrangement of elongate members (1,15), for moving the jaws (24,25) apart. The jaws (24,25) are moved back to a preselected attitude by the bias provided by a resilient membrane (27).
Abstract:
Apparatus for transferring electrical energy to and from living tissue comprises a glove (12) of thin, flexible elastomeric material, which carries electrodes (14, 16) each electrically connected to a connector (20, 22) disposed at the cuff of the glove. The connector permits the electrodes to be electrically connected to a source of electrical energy or to a load, so that electrical energy may be applied to or drawn from living tissue.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A non-invasive, external ear canal electrode (2) and connector (20) therefor useful for transmitting sound stimulus to an ear canal and for conducting electrical signals picked up from the ear canal epidermal surface. The electrode comprises an electro-conductive tube (2) having resilient plastics foam elements (8,10,12) attached to the end to be placed in the ear. One foam element (10) is electro- conductive and impregnated with an electrolytically conductive medium, and the cells of the other sound absorbing elements are filled with air. Stop means (44) projecting from the electrode limits the depth of insertion. The connector has a housing recess (24) into which the electrode can be removably inserted and retained by a spring (34) which electrically connects the electrode with a connector (36). An audio signal passage (42) in the connector communicates with the electrode tube (2).
Abstract:
An electrode for measuring electroretinograms which is made of a lens-shaped material composed of an electroconductive hydrogel and a lead line connected to the lens-shaped material in the portion thereof not falling in contact with an eyeball.
Abstract:
57 A disposable medical electrode having a configuration wherein the various sheets forming the electrode have at least two common edges thereby affording the manufacture of the electrode by a method comprising the cutting and laminating together of various continuous webs, the location and placement of which can be controlled, in an automatable process.
Abstract:
An apparatus (2) for use in monitoring fetal vital signs with monitoring equipment is disclosed. The apparatus (2) includes a form-sustaining guide tube (4), a sleeve (10), a fetal electrode structure having a piston member (16) and a body member (24), at least two active fetal electrodes (34) and a lead wire (14) for connecting the active fetal electrodes to monitoring equipment. At least a portion of the guide tube (4) and the body member (24) are slideably disposed within the sleeve (10). The active fetal electrodes (34) are attached to this piston member (16) and their free ends are disposed within channels (32) defined by the body member (24). The channels (32) project arcuately outwardly by a predetermined radius of curvature so as to define a continuous outwardly advancing open passage through the body member (24). The body member (24) also includes a shoulder (52) to preclude movement of the body member (24) within the sleeve (10) by more than a predetermined distance. The apparatus is inserted through passages of a woman in labor and brought into contact with the fetal scalp. By exerting pressure, the guide tube (4) advances in the sleeve (10) and releasably contacts the piston member (16) which in turn advances the active fetal electrodes (34) through and out of the channels (32) with an outward curvature and into the fetal scalp.
