Abstract:
A process is disclosed for the preparation of unsymmetrical dialkyl trisulfides by the reaction of dialkyl trisulfides and olefins in the presence of an acidic-type catalyst whereby alkyl groups are exchanged. Novel mixtures of symmetrical and unsymmetrical dialkyl trisulfides are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A process for separating emulsions of alkanesulfonyl chloride in aqueous hydrochloric acid comprises passing the emulsion through a carbon bed, a graphite bed, a layer of alkanesulfonyl chloride or a combination thereof; and allowing the emulsion to enter a settling vessel.
Abstract:
Curable compositions which are precursors for cured or partially cured light stabilized epoxy resins which are the product of the reaction of some or all of the epoxy groups of an epoxy resin with an N-(2,2,6,6-tetraalkyl-4-piperidinyl)amic acid hydrazide as well as the cured or partially cured reaction products thereof together with processes for their use and articles of manufacture produced thereby are disclosed.
Abstract:
Fire resistant hydraulic fluid compositions comprising (a) one or more esters of polyhaloaromatic acids per se or in combination with (b) one or more hydraulic fluids independently selected from mineral oil, poly- alpha -olefins, alkylated aromatics, cycloaliphatics, esters of dibasic acids, polyol esters, polyglycols, silicones, silicate esters, phosphate esters, and halogenated compositions other than (a); a method for imparting fire resistant properties to known hydraulic fluids by adding one or more esters of polyhaloaromatic acids alone or combined; and the use of the inventive compositions as fire resistant hydraulic fluids.
Abstract:
An improvement in the functional properties of a brittle substrate such as glass is achieved by application of an aqueous solution of a silane to the surface of the substrate. The solution comprises monomeric materials containing silanols, and incorporates at least one function such as strength, color and radiation modification. The materials of principal interest are silanes with at least one alkoxy group connected to silicon, and preferably having three alkoxy groups. The alkoxy silanes are dissolved in an aqueous solution in concentrations of from 1 to 100% by weight. After application, the coatings are cured. Coated articles are provided with useful characteristics.
Abstract:
Paint stripper formulations containing a solvent system comprised of an ester such as benzyl formate and methods for using the same to strip paint.
