Methods of purifying O-Ag capsules from an S. enterica NTS serovar, wherein the O- Ag capsule is substantially free of co-expressed cellulose and LPS, are described, as are immunogenic compositions comprising the O-Ag capsules and methods for treating, preventing and diagnosing Salmonella infections. Also described are constructs and methods for producing S. enterica NTS serovar mutants which over-express the O-Ag capsule.
Abstract:
This application describes a state deviation technique for identifying transient instabilities in power systems. Such instabilities may result from disturbances such as external faults and power swing conditions. Detection of transient instabilities is based on the direction of change of phase angle of a machine such as a generator at an equilibrium point. Method and apparatus as disclosed may also be used for assessing system-wide transient stability of a power system or portion thereof.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides novel endophyte strains or cultures thereof that have a symbiotic relationship with plants. The present disclosure further provides methods of improving seed vitality, biotic and abiotic stress resistance, plant health and yield under both stressed and unstressed environmental conditions, comprising inoculating a seed with the novel endophyte strains and cultivating a plant therefrom.

An energy exchanger is provided. The exchanger includes a housing having a front and a back. A plurality of panels forming desiccant channels extend from the front to the back of the housing. Air channels are formed between adjacent panels. The air channels are configured to direct an air stream in a direction from the front of the housing to the back of the housing. A desiccant inlet is provided in flow communication with the desiccant channels. A desiccant outlet is provided in flow communication with the desiccant channels. The desiccant channels are configured to channel desiccant from the desiccant inlet to the desiccant outlet in at least one of a counter-flow or cross-flow direction with respect to the direction of the air stream.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to primers for the universal amplification and detection of Archaea, which primers are designed based on a multiple sequence alignment of Archaea Type II chaperonin (thermosome) genes. For detection of Archaea having templates with a GC content of below 60%, primers are designed so that inosine residues are found at degenerate positions. For amplification of higher GC content templates, degenerate positions are replaced with specific nucleotide bases found in the high GC organism. The primers are useful for detecting, identifying and quantifying Archaea in a sample and for determining a phylogenetic relationship of a test Archaea organism.

Methods for separation and recovery of individual cyclic peptides from plant materials, said method comprising the steps of: (a) extracting an oil from a plant material; (b) separating the extracted oil into a non-polar fraction and a polar fraction; (c) separation and recovery of cyclic peptides from the non-polar fraction, and (d) separation and recovery of cyclic peptides from the polar fraction. The methods are suitable for separation and recovery of individual cyclolinopeptides from flax seed oil. Individual cyclolinopeptides are useful for modulation physiological disorders associated with apoptosis. Modified flaxseed oils may be produced by commingling flaxseed oils absent cyclolinopeptides, with at least one cyclolinopeptide separated and recovered with the methods disclosed herein.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for dark current reduction in metal /a-Se/ metal devices, highly suitable for application in high resolution x- ray image detectors for digital mammography is proposed. a-Se is amorphous selenium, stabilized by alloying it with a small amount of As. It is an x-ray photoconductor that is used in an x-ray detector. The method/technology is based mainly on the optimization of the a-Se vacuum deposition process and conditions and is not very sensitive to the composition of the used Se alloy. The detector may be a single layer a-Se or a two-layer a-Se structure, fabricated by the invented processes described herein.

Methods for the treatment and prevention of microbial infection, such as infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites are disclosed, as are adjuvants for use with vaccines against such microbes. The methods use porcine β-defensins, such as porcine β-defensin-1 and are particularly useful for treating or preventing infections caused by gram-negative bacteria, such as pertussis.

The invention provides a delivery system for a biologically active agent comprising a gemini surfactant in admixture with the biologically active agent in a topical formulation for treatment of skin disorders or metabolic diseases. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions in topical formulations comprising the delivery system as set out above, in admixture with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers, diluents, excipients, or supplements suitable for application to the skin or mucosal membrane. Methods of preparation and use are also described.
