Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for signaling and switching of beam pair links (BPLs) for directional transmission beams between a base station and a user equipment (UE). A threshold value may be determined, which corresponds to an amount of time for a UE to receive and decode control information, and apply a different BPL than a current BPL that that is in use. The UE may maintain a BPL for data, which is used during data transmission time intervals (TTIs) until an indication is received to change the BPL for data. The UE and the base station may determine to change between BPLs based at least in part on the threshold value and a scheduling offset between a control channel transmission that allocates resources for a data TTI and a start of the data TTI.

The apparatus may receive the first beam associated with the first type of channel and the second beam associated with the second type of channel. In an aspect, the first beam and the second beam may be received from a second device.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for wireless communication are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) comprises receiving a plurality of synchronization signals, the plurality of synchronization signals including a plurality of first synchronization signals of different types and a plurality of second synchronization signals of different types. Receiving the plurality of synchronization signals comprises receiving a first transmission by receiving a first group of the plurality of synchronization signals and receiving one or more repeat transmissions of the first transmission. Each of the one or more repeat transmissions of the first transmission includes a repetition of the first transmission. The first transmission and the one or more repeat transmissions of the first transmission are received within a first synchronization subframe. The plurality of synchronization signals are demultiplexed by performing time-division demultiplexing of at least one of the plurality of first synchronization signals and at least one of the plurality of second synchronization signals.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may transmit a subframe that includes physical broadcast channel (PBCH) signals interspersed within beam reference signals, where the subframe may be a synchronization subframe including one or more synchronization signals. In some cases, the beam reference signals from different antenna ports may be code division multiplexed or frequency division multiplexed over multiple frequency tones. A user equipment (UE) may use the beam reference signals to generate channel estimates for the PBCH signals. In some cases, orthogonal cover codes for code division multiplexed signals may be selected to facilitate generation of channel estimates for PBCH signals transmitted using nearby frequency tones.

Abstract: In wireless communication systems that support 5G or NR protocols, subframes used for communication may have different numerology options. Numerology options may refer to the characteristics of the subframe such as a tone spacing within each symbol of the subframe, a symbol duration for each symbol of the subframe, a number of symbols in the subframe, etc. A subframe may include a control channel (e.g., the PDCCH) and a data channel (e.g., the PDSCH). In an aspect, the control channel and the data channel within the subframe may have different numerologies. As such, a need exists to signal the numerology of the subframe to users and to determine whether and how to multiplex the control channel and the data channel into the subframe.
