Abstract:
An L-shaped mixing head (10) for reaction injection molding apparatus comprises a first chamber (14) wherein a plurality of reactive molding components are impingement mixed under high pressure. A second chamber (16) intersecting with the first chamber quiets the resulting stream of mix product prior to its exiting the mixiing head. The outlet end (18) of the second chamber is defined by the inner surface (40) of a sleeve (42), the material of which has a yield strength less than that of the materials of the mixing head body and the second plunger (32). Most preferably, the sleeve material is also chemically nonreactive with and nonadherent to the reactive molding components to be used therewith, both individually and as mixed.

Abstract:
This invention relates to the use of a barrier film consisting essentially of thermoplastic copolymer polyester resin to protect a styrenic resin sheet which constitutes the inner liner wall of an insulative cabinet wall of, for example, a refrigeration appliance unit from attack by the halogen-containing blowing agents present in the insulative polyurethane foam found within the cabinet wall.
Abstract:
An electrochromic device (10) incorporating an electrochromic material (13) and a perfluorosulfonic acid polymer ion conducting layer (14) interposed between a working electrode (12) and a counter electrode (15), characterized by the feature that the perfluorosulfonic acid polymer layer (14) comprises a substantially fluorinated backbone which has recurring pendant groups attached thereto represented by the formula -O-(CFR'f)b-(CFRf)a-SO3-, where a=0-3, b=0-3, a+b= at least 1, and Rf and R'f are independently selected from a halogen and a substantially fluorinated alkyl group having one or more carbon atoms. One example of such a polymer is the copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoro-2-((trifluoroethenyl)oxy)ethane sulfonic acid having an equivalent weight of about 800. The primary benefit of the present invention is that the electrochromic device darkens sufficiently to be useful when the device is operated at high temperature such as can be encountered in an automobile electrochromic sun roof on a sunny day in a hot climate.

Abstract:
The displacement of halogen from a 1,2,3-trihalo-4,6-dinitroresorcinol can be carried out in an aqueous medium using alkali metal hydroxide to form 2-halo-4,6-dinitroresorcinol. The product is a useful intermediate in the synthesis of 4,6-diaminoresorcinol, which is a monomer for polybenzoxazole polymers. The process forms part of a useful aqueous process for synthesizing 4,6-diaminoresorcinol.

Abstract:
Refrigeration fluid compositions for compression refrigeration which have an upper solution critical temperature equal to or greater than about 35 °C are composed of selected hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons with esterified polyether polyols in which at least 30 percent of the hydroxyls are esterified. The esterified polyether polyols have a viscosity of between 6 and 150 centistokes (6 x 10-6 and 15 x 10-5 m2/s) at 38 °C. These esterified polyether polyols are more soluble in refrigerant R134a than their polyglycol precursors.
