Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform effective impact compression under superhigh temperature at low cost by specifically providing an explosive layer to one surface of a flying member provided on that the other surface is set parallel to an axially extending condensable material with a gap left. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical container 2 contains a condensable material 1 and pluged up with plugs 3 and 4. A cylindrical flying member 5 concentric with the containr 2 is provided with a gap 6 left, and a main explosive layer 9 is formed over its outer circumferential surface; and the member 5 collides with the container by the explosive force of said layer to compress the material 1 by impact. Then, a subordinate explosive layer 28 having a higher explosion speed than the layer is provided over the outer circumferential surface of the layer 9. The layer 9 is exploded by the explosion initiating part consisting of a detonator 11 and an initiating explosive layer 10 successively from the upper end to the lower end. Then, the layer 9 is also exploded similarly. In this case, an isolating plate 29 made of wood, etc., prevents the layer 9 from being induced to explode directly through the explosion of the layer 10. This device performs effect impact compression under superhigh pressure without using high-performance explosive having fast explosion speed in a large quantity.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the moving speed of a vessel contg. a sample toward the other end part and to prevent the rupture of the vessel by providing explosive layers for deceleration which are exploded by the bombardment of a flying member and impulsive wave attenuating plates in both end parts of said vessel. CONSTITUTION:A sample 1 is contained in a vessel 2, and plugs 3, 4 are provided in both end parts thereof. Preventing means for rupture of the vessel wherein explosive layers 21, 22 for deceleration are sandwiched with impulsive wave attenuating plates 23, 24 and 25, 26 are provided respectively on the other sides thereof. A flying member 5 and a main explosive layer 9 are provided on the outside circumference of the vessel 2 via a space 6, and a plane detonation wave generating means 30 is provided in the upper part. A plastic plate 27 is provided in the lower part. For example, penthrite or the like which is subjected to a molding treatment is used for the layers 21, 22 and, for example, metharcylics, etc. are used for the plates 23-26. The sample is subjected to an impact compression treatment by actuating a detonator 11, whereby the high pressure impact treatment of the sample is accomplished uniformly.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simply generate a superhigh pressure as well as make the control of the pressure easier by a method in which an impact wave is applied against a substance to be treated in such a way as to apply a superhigh pressure to the substance by the interference of the impact wave. CONSTITUTION:A flyer acceleration part II, e.g., launch tube 13, etc., by which a flyer 9 present is forced to run is contacted with the diaphragm 8 of a high-pressure gas generatorI, and an impact wave generator III is provided on the outlet side of the flyer 9. The flyer 9 accelerated by the pressure of a light gas goes up in the launch tube 13, is discharged from the outlet of the impaction chamber 14, and collides against the protective cover 27 of a recovery capsule 15. Whereupon, an impact wave is produced inside a sample 25 and a superhigh pressure is generated by the interference of the impact wave. By the repeated use of such a simplified device capable of controlling pressure generated and of generating superhigh pressures, the synthesis of substances, etc., can be performed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a diamond sintered body under a relatively low press. in a short time by sintering raw material diamond powder having a microstrain, at high temp. and press., obtd. by applying mechanically striking energy. CONSTITUTION:Diamond powder 1 with an average diameter of 30mu or less is covered with Ni foil, formed into a disk, and set on central protrusion 4 of lower punch 3 fixed into cylinder 2, and upper punch 5 is mounted on the disk. Striking energy of 10 tons.meter or more is applied to powder 1 through punch 5 to produce a microstrain inducing no change in crystal external form and having crystal disorder or lattice disorder in the interior alone. Powder 1 having the microstrain is then sintered as a starting raw material with a usual static high press. unit under above 55000 atm at above 1300 deg.C for about 5min to obtain a diamond sintered body. By further holding this body at constant high temp. and press. diamond can be grown.
