Abstract:
Systems and methods utilize heated waste flue gas to treat water. The heated waste flue gas, which may come from a steam generator, bubbles through untreated water to vaporize the untreated water and separate out solids and other contaminants before subsequent condensing. The steam generator may receive resulting treated water to produce steam for injection.
Abstract:
This disclosure describes a novel method for predicting continuous wellbore mechanical properties such as static elastic stiffness and failure strength, where the properties solutions are deterministic and based on mechanical theory. It has at least three immediate applications: (a) continuous plots of mechanical properties vs. depth, (b) conceptual testing of the effect of changing constituent volume fractions, (c) ternary plots.
Abstract:
Offshore system for delivering geotechnical tools to seafloor is described. The system includes a carrier tube that includes an upper end and a lower end, wherein the carrier tube is characterized by an outer diameter and an inner diameter and wherein the inner diameter of the carrier tube defines a hydraulic cylinder; a landing sub shaped or installed at or near the upper end of the carrier tube, wherein inner diameter of the landing sub is smaller than the inner diameter of the carrier tube; a drill bit shaped or installed at or near the lower end of the carrier tube; an extension tube extending upward from the upper end of the carrier tube; an upward seal that seals top portion of the extension tubes; a compression system for introducing compressed fluid under the upward seal; a fixed rod that runs through the hydraulic cylinder; a hydraulic piston disposed in the hydraulic cylinder, wherein the hydraulic piston is moveable along the fixed rod; one or more shear pins configured to restrict displacement of the hydraulic piston until a sufficient fluid pressure is built up; and an inner tube disposed between the carrier tube and the hydraulic piston, wherein lower portion of the inner tube includes a cone penetrometer that is ballistically inserted into the soil during downward displacement of the hydraulic piston.
Abstract:
The present disclosure describes a method that improves the long-range geobody continuity in Multiple Point Statistical methods, wherein the coarsest multi-grid level cells are simulated in a regular path, and the subsequent level cells are simulated in a random path as usual. The method is general and is applicable to different cases: such as hard data conditioning, soft data conditioning, non-stationarity modeling, 2 or more than 2 types of facies modeling, and 2D and 3D modeling. The method is particularly useful in reservoir modeling, especially for the channelized systems, but can be generally applied to other geological environments.
Abstract:
A method for determining an optimal radio frequency to break an emulsion comprises: analyzing an oil and water interface of an emulsion; defining the oil and water interface at a molecular level; simulating oscillation of molecules at the oil and water interface under different radio frequencies; and determining an optimal radio frequency to break the emulsion.
Abstract:
An improved baseplate design is described that correct the flexure with a plurality of actuators mounted on top of the base plate. Sensors and a feedback circuit enables the detection of flexure and a corresponding compensating scheme to correct and/or prevent the flexure in order for the baseplate to complete couple with the ground for more accurate seismic survey.
Abstract:
Systems and methods compute dysfunctions via mapping of tri-axial accelerations of drill pipe into drill-string motions. The methods remove gravitational and centripetal accelerations to yield corrected acceleration data due to the vibration only, transform the corrected acceleration data, and maps resulting transformed acceleration data into continuous drill-string positions. The maps provide 2D/3D visualization of drill-string motions to enable real-time optimization and control of well drilling operations and other scenarios where proactive detection of temporal events in automated systems may aid in avoiding failures.
Abstract:
A plunger lift system that uses a linear induction motor instead of gas or fluid pressure to lift the plunger. Electrical voltage is applied to electromagnets installed along the tubing of a wellbore that will induce magnets contained within a special plunger that is introduced inside the tubing to move it and allow it to lift liquids with a piston-like action. The electromotive force may be adjusted by varying the applied voltage as needed to lift the column of liquid from the wellbore or the current reversed to accelerate and optimize plunger descent.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a method for modeling and analyzing the impact of different seismic surveying and imaging techniques on a subterranean formation by creating a black hole boundary condition around a particular region in the formation where at least one of the physical characteristics is unclear and may distort the seismic modeling results. The black hole boundary conditions will eliminate any energy wave that enters, exit or reflect off the region so as to avoid any image distortion caused by this region. The resulted image data is compared with the image data obtained without using the black hole boundary conditions to determine the impact of this region, and proper correction can be made to more precisely and accurately model the formation
