Abstract:
Disclosed in a process for the homogeneous, catalytic hydrogenation of epoxyalkenes and epoxycycloalkenes, especially conjugated gamma , delta -epoxyalkenes and gamma , delta -epoxycycloalkenes, to the corresponding expoxyalkanes and epoxycycloalkanes using a solution of a complex rhodium catalyst whereby the olefinic unsaturation is hydrogenated without significant hydrogenolysis of the conjugated epoxy group.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an aerosol hair spray formulation containing 0.5 to 15 weight percent of a water-dispersible or water-dissipatible, linear sulfopolyester having a Tg of 40 DEG C to 50 DEG C and an inherent viscosity of 0.24 to 0.60 dl/g which contains repeat units from 20 to 26 mole percent dimethyl-5-sodiosulfoisophthalate and 74 to 80 mole percent isophthalic acid, based on 100 mole percent dicarboxylic acid; 10 to 30 mole percent 1,4-cyclohexaedimethanol and 70 to 90 mole percent diethylene glycol, based on 100 mole percent diol; and up to 60 weight percent of an alcohol. The aerosol hair spray formulations are clear, have improved dry time and curl retention, and exhibit less than 20 NTU's, which is a measure of turbidity, even at high concentrations of alcohol.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the removal of iodine, including I2, I and iodine-containing organic compounds, from acetic acid or anhydride wherein an acetyl product stream comprising (i) acetic acid or acetic anhydride and (ii) iodine, one or more iodine-containing compounds or a mixture thereof is subjected to distillation in the presence of a packing material comprising iron, nickel, copper, or an alloy thereof.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a vertically disposed polymerization reactor (2) having a series of essentially circular tray assemblies (10); each tray assembly (10) having a central open vapor chimney (18) and a single flow path (26) composed of at least two loops (30, 32) wherein the liquid polymer flow is reversed by means of a substantially semi-circular turnaround wall (24); said trays having a liquid polymer tray inlet (14) and a liquid polymer tray outlet (16) for conducting a flow of the liquid polymer by means of a hydraulic gradient; each tray assembly (10) being open at the top for escape of vapor from the liquid polymer flow to the central open vapor chimney (18); and said trays (10) arranged in vertical disposition one above the other.
Abstract:
Provided is a method for preparing a powder coating composition comprising: (a) forming a mixture comprising solid particles which include a curable resin and a crosslinking agent that is reactive with the curable resin suspended in an aqueous liquid phase comprising water and a surfactant; (b) milling the mixture at a temperature of up to about 40 DEG C so as to reduce the mean particle size of the particles to no greater than about 15 mu m; (c) agglomerating the particles so as to increase their mean particle size to at least about 20 mu m; (d) separating the particles from the aqueous liquid phase; and (e) drying the particles to form a powder.
Abstract:
Compositions are disclosed that are the urea derivatives of succinylated polyolefins (maleated polyolefins). The urea derivatives of succinylated polyolefins are of formula (I); wherein R is a polyolefin attached at any point along the hydrocarbon chain. The urea derivative of succinylated polyolefins is useful as a coupling agent to couple polyolefins with dissimilar polymers having an excess of unreacted acid groups such as polyesters.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for the production of low molecular weight grafted polyolefins in which a molten polyolefin is grafted by reactive processing in a screw extruder at an elevated pressure. The molten polyolefin has a low viscosity and flows easily around the screw, thus the pressure is maintained in the screw extruder apparatus by the use of a pressure control device at the exit end of the extruder.
Abstract:
This invention relates to polyester/plasticizer blends which are useful as heat-shrinkable films or sheet in low temperature shrink packaging applications. The plasticizer is injected into the melt of the polyester. The plasticizer lowers the glass transition temperature, on-set temperature and shrink rate of the polyester. Film or sheet produced by the polyester/plasticizer blends is clear.
Abstract:
Provided are 3-oxoadipate esters of certain polyols which are useful as cross-linkers in thermosetting coating compositions. Also provided are such thermosetting compositions comprised of a curable hydroxyl-functional polymer such as a polyester or acrylic and the cross-linkers of the present invention. Such compositions offer a significant improvement in curing temperature.
