Abstract:
A lubricant is provided for use in hot working such as cross-roll rolling of a seamless steel pipe. It effectively reduces the friction coefficient between the working tools and the material under the hot work, thus extending the lives of the tools. The lubricant contains: (A) from about 10 to about 60 wt% of alkali silicate; (B) from about 1 to about 20 wt% of silane coupling agent; (C) from about 0.1 to about 5.0 wt% of at least one kind of alkali compound selected from a group consisting of an alkali hydroxide, an alkali carbonate, an alkali borate and an alkali salt of mineral acid; and (D) from about 30 to about 70 wt% of water. Alternatively, the lubricant contains: (A) from about 10 to about 60 wt% of alkali silicate; (B) from about 1 to about 20 wt% of silane coupling agent; (C) from about 0.1 to about 5.0 wt% of at least one kind of alkali compound selected from a group consisting of an alkali hydroxide, an alkali carbonate, an alkali borate and an alkali salt of mineral acid; (D) from about 5 to about 50 wt% of water; (E) from about 10 to about 60 wt% of iron oxide; and (F) from about 0.1 to about 5.0 wt% of at least one additive selected from a group consisting of a dispersant and a thickening agent.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to improved gel/grease compositions as well as grease compositions capable of imparting improved corrosion resistance. The grease includes a silica/silicate mixture that can impart a relatively high pH and corrosion resistant properties to the grease.
Abstract:
A method of lubricating plastic conveyor tracks or belts is herein described wherein the lubricant composition contains a block copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide; also described are methods of manufacture of such lubricant compositions in both concentrate and diluted form. The compositions may also comprise an anionic and a nonionic surfactant as well as a neutralizing agent.
Abstract:
Alkaline diamine track lubricants for use with glass, aluminum and two-piece PET containers and other articles of manufacture are prepared from an admixture of an alkyl diamine and a water-soluble hydrotrope. The diamine lubricants are prepared without the neutralization thereof and have a corrosion inhibitor which is, preferably, a reducing agent and a biocide incorporated thereinto. A source of alkalinity may be employed, as well, to maintain the pH above 8.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition including ethoxylated long chain primary alcohols and, preferably, boron compounds but excluding most other previously used organic lubricant materials gives superior results in tube pointing operations, especially with thick walled tubes, and is also useful for drawing operations, either subsequent to pointing or independently of pointing, where very high quality surface finishes are desired.
Abstract:
A dilatancy liquid is a sol under a low shear stress and a gel under a high shear stress, and includes inorganic particles having a roundness of 1.1 or less, and a particle diameter of from 0.05 to 5 µm, and a liquid held among the inorganic particles. The dilatancy liquid is of high mechanical strength, and exhibits a low viscosity under a low shear stress and a high viscosity under a high shear stress; namely: it exhibits a large viscous-resistance variation by a shear-stress increment.
Abstract:
Stable concentrated liquid and solid antimicrobial lubricating compositions can be formulated which include (-) 5 to 40 wt % of a C6-24 fatty acid, (-) 10 to 40 wt % of a quaternary ammonium salt, (-) an amount of an alkaline source sufficient to increase the pH of the composition to at least 8, and optionally (-) about 0.1 to 10 wt % of an amine. The balance of the liquid form of the composition constitutes water. The lubricating compositions are particularly useful on the load bearing surfaces of conveyor belts used in food preparation where a combination of effective lubricity and efficacious antimicrobial activity are necessary.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic compatible lubricant concentrate containing alkylpolyglycoside suitable for use in lubricating conveyor belts in the transporting of thermoplastic article of manufacture. The hydrophobic group of the alkylpolyglycoside is a long chain alkyl group having 5 to 30 carbon atoms. The degree of polymerization of the saccharide units in the polyglycoside is less than 3.
Abstract:
Disclosed are grease compositions containing a liquid fluorinated polymer and a thickening agent containing hexagonal lattice boron nitride powder having a bimodal particle size distribution as well as grease compositions containing a liquid fluorinated polymer and a thickening agent containing hexagonal lattice boron nitride powder and a solid fluorinated polymer.
Abstract:
Contact of acid or alkaline cleaned aluminum surfaces, particularly cans, with a water based composition containing a combination of
(A) water-soluble ethoxylated organic material selected from the group consisting of ethoxylated fatty acids, salts of ethoxylated fatty acids, ethoxylated alcohols having at least 4 carbon atoms and containing up to 20 moles of condensed ethylene oxide per mole of alcohol, ethoxylated alkyl alcohol phosphate ester, and mixtures thereof; and (B) an amount of hydrogen peroxide effective to prevent deterioration of the composition by the action of microorganisms,
gives the surface after drying lowered surface friction without loss of high quality printability and lacquer adhesion and removes any brown spotting on the cans that may have developed during the cleaning or post-cleaning rinses. The cans after treatment are substantially free from any water breaks when rinsed with water. The foaming resistance and storage stability of the water based composition may be advantageously increased by adding a combination of liquid paraffin, solid wax, and a high molecular weight fatty acid derivative(s) as antifoam agent.
