Abstract:
A solid phosphorus pentoxide containing material suitable for use in fast-setting cements can be produced by a process which comprises mixing a porous material with a liquid, phosphorus pentoxide containing material and heating the mixture until a dry solid is produced. The solid phosphorus pentoxide containing material thus formed can then be dry blended with a solid component comprising magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate or mixtures thereof. An aggregate can optionally be added into this dry blend. The components of the resulting dry blend react in the presence of an aqueous component to form a monolithic solid.
Abstract:
@ A process for the production of polyphosphide crystals characterised in that it comprises liquid phase growth of polyphosphide crystals from a polyphosphide melt. More particularly, the process may comprise
(A) heating a polyphosphide charge to a melt having a temperature substantially within the range of from 650 to 670°.C; and (B) slowly cooling the melt to form polyphosphide crystals.
Referring to the accompanying illustrative diagram, the present process may be applied to the growth of crystals of melt 22 on substrates 24 by tilting a sealed ampule 20. The present invention represents an advance over the prior art.
Abstract:
Production of N-arylhalopyrrolidones by intramolecular cyclization of an α-halogen-N-2-alkenylamtde is conducted in the presence of a copper-containing catalyst and a primary or secondary aliphatic amine.
Abstract:
Decombinant plasmids adopted for transformation of prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts having an insertion site for at least one DNA fragment are provided. In a preferred embodiment, nucleotide sequences coding for methotrexate-resistant dehydrofolate reductase and a nucleotide sequence, a portion thereof coding for a promotor, are ligated into the insertion site.
Abstract:
An acid resistant phosphate ester functional fluid comprises phosphate ester basestock and an additive composition comprising: (1) N-alkyl-2-pyrrolidone, (2) epoxide, and (3) triazole. The functional fluid has utility for lubricating machinery. The additive composition may be prepared separately and used for imparting acid resistance to phosphate esters.
Abstract:
An inhalation apparatus for exposing small laboratory animals, e.g., rats, to a test atmosphere in such a manner that the animals are exposed to a uniform concentration of the test atmosphere containing substantially no exhaled materials. The apparatus comprises an animal holding tube means capable of positioning the nose of an animal at a fixed point within the tube means. The tube means is provided with a test atmosphere inlet means located in the vicinity of the nose and an exhaust outlet means such that the test atmosphere can be inhaled by the animal then exhausted rearward of the nose of the animal. A plurality of these animal holding tube means can be combined by connecting their inlet means to a first plenum duct that is in communication with a source of the test atmosphere and connecting their outlet means to a second plenum duct for exhausting substantially all exhaled materials and excess test atmosphere.
Abstract:
A roof structure is disclosed which contains a plastic roofing membrane containing a predominant amount of an internally plasticized vinyl chloride copolymer resin, preferably in combination with a lesser amount of chlorinated polyethylene.
Abstract:
Compounds having a ratio stannic (IV) cation to N-Phosphonomethylglycine anion of from about 1:1 to about 1:6, in particular tris-N-phosphonomethylglycine and tetra-N-phosphonomethylglycine and compositions containing them as useful as herbicides.
