Abstract:
A communications system for transmitting and receiving remote control messages in an electronic remote control system. The present communications system uses a remote control message protocol which is particularly suitable for transmitting RF remote control messages with IR remote control messages in a time multiplexed fashion, wherein the RF remote control messages are transmitted during the pause intervals between IR remote control message transmission intervals. The present remote control message protocol (80) includes a start sequence (82), comprising a MARK pulse and a SPACE of about equal duration, followed by a plurality of data fields. Each data field ends with an End of Field marker (85) and the remote control message ends with an End of Message marker (87). The plurality of data fields comprises an addressing data field (89) for specifying the destination device, a security code data field (89) for allowing a specific remote control transmitter to control a specific destination device, a status field (88) for specifying various status codes associated with the remote control message, a keycode field (90) for carrying the remote control message payload, and a checksum field (92) for verifying the transmission integrity of the remote control message. A remote control message based on the present message protocol may be expanded to include additional data fields and to expand pre-existing data fields.

A remote control for a monitoring system of a building is provided including a mobile device having a plurality of communication channels and a media storage area. An application is stored in the media storage area of the mobile device. The application is configured to communicate with a control panel of the monitoring system. The application dynamically selects a communication channel to establish a communication link with the control panel based on a predetermined hierarchy. The application operates in one of a plurality of modes based on the communication channel selected.

A method and a device for determining what commands can be used to operate a receiving device (110) when a user operates a control device (105). After such a determination is made, a first command is transmitted to the receiving device from the control device (105) over a first communication interface and a second command is transmitted to the receiving device (110) over 5 a second communication interface. The communication interface that is selected depends on whether the control device can control the operation of the receiving device (110) with such a command directly or whether an intervening device (130/140) is required to translate the command from a first format to a second format.

A remote control system includes a mobile device (1) and a receiver (2) connected to a control target. The mobile device (1) includes an input unit (11) accepting user's input operation; an operation signal transmission unit (13) wirelessly transmitting an operation signal corresponding to the input operation during the input operation; a frequency switching determination unit (12) determining whether to switch the transmission frequency band from a first frequency band to a second frequency band based on at least any one of a manner of the input operation and a state of wireless communication; and a transmission frequency switching unit (12) switching the transmission frequency band when the frequency switching determination unit determines to switch the transmission frequency band. The receiver (2) includes an operation signal reception unit (21) receiving the operation signal; and a control unit (22) controlling the control target on the basis of the received operation signal.
Abstract:
A system and method for generating remote control signals to control a device while conserving power. The method includes receiving an input command for communication to the device to be controlled and determining a use context based on the input command. Based on the context determination, communication over an infrared transmitter and a radio frequency transmitter is adjusted for power savings where one transmitter is typically active. The input command may then be sent via the infrared transmitter or the radio frequency transmitter. At the completion of the usage mode, the operational states of the transmitters can be switched.
Abstract:
A controller for a device transmitting commands across one or more communication channels. Each such channel may employ a separate medium, such as radio waves and infrared light. The controller may transmit two separate signals to a device, where one signal is sent via radio waves and the other by infrared light. One signal may correspond to a group identifier and the other to an operating command to be carried out by the device. The device may receive both signals and, if the device belongs to a group corresponding to the group identifier, it may execute the operating command. Alternatively, the group identifier may be replaced by a wake command and the device may execute the operating command only if the wake command is received.
