Abstract:
In on embodiment, techniques for providing alerts to a user when a communication frequency pattern between a user and a contact has not occurred during a pre-determined amount of time are provided. Communication records between the contact and the user can be analyzed to determine if the communication frequency pattern with the contact during the pre-determined amount of time does not meet pre-determined criteria. For example, the criteria may be generate an alert if communications do not occur in the last month, generate an alert if less than five communications occur in the last six months, or any other communication pattern. Also, the content of a communication may be analyzed to determine if a certain topic has been discussed. If a certain topic has not been discussed during the pre-determined amount of time, an alert may also be generated reminding the user that the topic has not been discussed.
Abstract:
Servicing an incoming Facsimile (FAX) communication includes receiving the incoming FAX communication by a source telephony bridging device via a source PSTN connection, the incoming FAX communication having an incoming FAX number associated therewith. Based upon the incoming FAX number, the source telephony bridging device determines a user ID in a peer-to-peer Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) network, determines an Internet Protocol (IP) address of a destination telephony bridging device based upon the user ID in the peer-to-peer VoIP network, and determines an outgoing FAX number based upon the user ID in the peer-to-peer VoIP network. The source telephony bridging device, an intermediate packet data network, and the destination telephony bridging device bridge the FAX communication from the source PSTN connection to a destination PSTN connection, the FAX communication directed to the outgoing FAX number.
Abstract:
A method for accessing and browsing the internet through the use of a telephone and the associated DTMF signals is disclosed. The preferred embodiment provides a system that converts the information content of a web page from text to speech (voice signals), signals the hyperlink selections of a web page in an audio manner, and allows selection of the hyperlinks through the use of DTMF signals generated from a telephone keypad. Upon receiving a DTMF signal corresponding to a hyperlink, the corresponding web page is fetched and again delivered to the user via one of the available delivery methods such as voice, fax-on-demand, electronic mail, or regular mail.
Abstract:
In a communication system that includes a communication terminal that originates and receives a call through a call control server, the call control server receives destination information from the communication terminal as a call request. The call control server checks an address of the communication terminal and determines based on the destination information whether transmission to a destination terminal is permitted for the communication terminal. Only when the transmission is permitted, the call control server originates a call to an address corresponding to the destination information to connect the communication terminal to the destination terminal.

Abstract:
A signal processing system which discriminates between voice signals and data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier. The signal processing system includes a voice exchange, a data exchange and a call discriminator. The voice exchange is capable of exchanging voice signals between a switched circuit network and a packet based network. The signal processing system also includes a data exchange capable of exchanging data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier on the switched circuit network with unmodulated data signal packets on the packet based network. The data exchange is performed by demodulating data signals from the switched circuit network for transmission on the packet based network, and modulating data signal packets from the packet based network for transmission on the switched circuit network. The call discriminator is used to selectively enable the voice exchange and data exchange.
Abstract:
System and method for processing communication signals in a communication system having a detector for detecting a parameter of a communication signal. A communication signal is provided to a non-linear processor (NLP) adapted to examine the signal and to decide whether or not to enter an active state based upon a parameter of the signal. If the NLP enters an active state, the NLP performs non-linear processing on the signal. The NLP communicates to the detector whether the NLP is active or inactive. If the NLP is active, a processing step of the detector is disabled.
Abstract:
A network terminal apparatus in a type of directly connecting to a packet communication network, with an interface for connecting to a circuit under an environment of an SIP terminal network, and a capability of carrying out facsimile transmission/reception, carries out a call control method according to SIP, transmits and receives an SDP added to a message body of an SIP, and carries out, in a same session, both a call control session transmitting and receiving an SIP message and an SDP and a T.38 session transmitting and receiving a T.38 signal.
Abstract:
According to the data amount stored in a jitter buffer, which temporarily stores obtained data from a received voice packet, an operation timing of an output process of the jitter buffer and a data process of a codec and a modem is adjusted, the codec and the modem processing data that is sequentially output from the jitter buffer.
Abstract:
A device for processing voice and data in a remote access server which provides a voice and facsimile data transmission service over the Internet. The device comprises a first interface for interfacing with a public network; a second interface for interfacing with the Internet; and, a remote access server connected to the first and second interfaces for transmitting voice and facsimile data received from the first interface to the Internet via the second interface and for transmitting voice and facsimile data received from the second interface to the public network via the first interface. The remote access server includes a plurality of voice/facsimile codecs each having a plurality of channels connected to the first interface for encoding and decoding voice and facsimile data provided from the first and second interface; a codec controller for controlling the associated voice/facsimile codecs and for controlling the generation of an interrupt in the corresponding voice/facsimile codec according to whether to process the voice and facsimile data received through the channels; a slave processor for providing the voice and facsimile data to a specified channel, for outputting the voice and facsimile data encoded by the voice/facsimile codecs upon receipt of the interrupt, for decoding the voice and facsimile data provided from the second interface and outputting the decoded voice and facsimile data to the first interface; and, a master processor for communicating with a system operator and for managing the slave processors.
