Abstract:
An offshore drilling unit includes a main body configured to be bottom supported in shallow water. Also included is an anchoring assembly secured to a sea floor. Further included is a tensioning system operatively coupled to the main body and the anchoring assembly, wherein the tensioning system is configured to apply a downward force on the main body to resist ice loads imposed on the offshore drilling unit.
Abstract:
Computer-implemented method for determining optimal sampling grid during seismic data reconstruction includes: a) constructing an optimization model, via a computing processor, given by minu∥Su∥1 s.t. ∥Ru−b∥2≦σ wherein S is a discrete transform matrix, b is seismic data on an observed grid, u is seismic data on a reconstruction grid, and matrix R is a sampling operator; b) defining mutual coherence as μ ≤ C S m ( log n ) 6 , wherein C is a constant, S is a cardinality of Su, m is proportional to number of seismic traces on the observed grid, and n is proportional to number of seismic traces on the reconstruction grid; c) deriving a mutual coherence proxy, wherein the mutual coherence proxy is a proxy for mutual coherence when S is over-complete and wherein the mutual coherence proxy is exactly the mutual coherence when S is a Fourier transform; and d) determining a sample grid r*=arg minr μ(r).
Abstract:
Methods produce heavy oil with steam assisted gravity drainage. Such methods alternate a traditional steam injection with an injection of a steam-plus-non-condensable gas (such as CO2 or CO2-plus-diluent) mixture. The CO2/diluent mixture is soluble in bitumen, leading to a reduction in viscosity of the heavy oil. Additionally, the steam-only injection reduces the accumulation of vapor NCG along the edge of the steam chamber, leading to improved thermal efficiency.

The riser protection structure comprises a plurality of piles, an upper module, wherein the upper module comprises a main protection tubing for receiving a riser, a plurality of sleeves to be installed over the plurality of piles, and a connecting network; wherein the plurality of sleeves are disposed around the main protection tubing; and wherein the main protection tubing and the plurality of sleeves are connected together by the connecting network, and a lower module, wherein the lower module comprises a plurality of tubular guides for guiding and later fixing the piles and a connecting structure, wherein the plurality of piles are securely disposed into the seabed for providing the requisite support for the upper and lower modules when they are assembled.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the correlating of mechanical and geological (e.g. compositional) information from a rock core or a large number of rock cores. A geological facies model may be created correlating mechanical and geological information, and allowing prediction of the mechanical properties of rock with given geological properties, such as composition, porosity, etc.
Abstract:
Methods and systems relate to an oxy-boiler used to generate steam injected into a well for assisting recovery of hydrocarbons. Operating conditions of a burner for the oxy-boiler limits oxygen contamination in a resulting flue gas for carbon dioxide recovery and limits size of the oxy-boiler, which may thus be located proximate the well rather at a central processing facility. In contrast to a direct steam generation approach where resulting carbon dioxide is mixed with steam, the oxy-boiler also enables selection of a desired level of carbon dioxide injection, which may be provided with the flue gas that may be exhausted from the oxy-boiler at an injection pressure.
Abstract:
Methods and systems generate steam for injection into a formation in order to facilitate oil recovery and also capture carbon dioxide in a recovery unit that receives flue gas exhaust from such steam generation. The methods and systems integrate various process streams from and to the carbon dioxide recovery unit. Such integration provides resulting benefits associated with efficiency and/or carbon dioxide avoidance.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the prevention of small leakages from transfer lines used for transferring liquids, e.g. oil, between ships, oil platforms and other structures or vessels, where the transfer lines extend over open water. In such situations, small amounts of oil can leak from e.g. a corroded joint, causing an environmental impact which may be a notifiable event. A pad may be fastened around a joint or other part of the transfer line which may be at risk of leakage or seepage, which is capable of soaking up the small volumes of liquid which are likely to be involved (a liter or so). The pad includes a sorbent zone and an outer impermeable layer which may have a transparent or translucent portion. The pad is preferably also equipped with a floatation element.
Abstract:
A method correlates satellite image data with data taken from multiple upward-looking sonars moored on the sea floor. The correlation of this information facilitates the prediction of ice thickness in later seasons using synthetic aperture radiation only, thus allowing for the assessment of threats to oil exploration, production or completion facilities located in the Arctic Ocean.
