Abstract: Techniques for accessing a wireless communication system are described. A user equipment (UE) sends a random access preamble for system access. The random access preamble may include a random identifier (ID), a channel quality indicator (CQI), etc. The UE may randomly select the random ID or may be assigned this random ID. The UE receives a random access response from a base station. The random access response may include control channel resources (e.g., CQI and PC resources), uplink resources, and/or control information (e.g., timing advance and PC correction) for the UE. The random access response may be sent in two parts using two messages. A first message may be sent on a control channel and may include identification information and possibly other information. A second message may be sent on a shared data channel and may include remaining information for the random access response.

Abstract: Techniques for monitoring grant channels in a wireless communication network are described. In one design, a user equipment (UE) determines whether a monitoring condition is satisfied, monitors at least one grant channel for grants of radio resources if the monitoring condition is satisfied, and stops monitoring the at least one grant channel if the monitoring condition is not satisfied. The UE may determine that the monitoring condition is satisfied after sending scheduling information indicating that there is data to send, if there is an outstanding grant of radio resources, if a grant of radio resources is expected, if there is at least one scheduled flow and a data buffer for the scheduled flow(s) is not empty, if there is an outstanding grant of radio resources and data transmission has been sent using this grant of radio resources, if there is at least one other control channel to monitor, etc.

Abstract: A scheduled data communication system of an access node and terminal supports recurring communications of small data amounts such as Voice over IP (VoIP). In order to make error checking more robust in a random access response (RAR), such as for semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) for VoIP, a portion of a grant or assignment payload has a constraint imposed that can be verified as a condition precedent to determining a valid grant or assignment rather than only relying upon a validity check field, such as a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). Thereby, incorrect validation of a grant or assignment is avoided for dynamic scheduling or for semi-persistent scheduling, the latter causing a persistent error.

Abstract: 596472 An apparatus and a method for wireless communication are disclosed. The apparatus comprises at least one processor configured to: send a random access preamble for system access by a user equipment (UE), and receive a random access response from a base station and a memory coupled to the at least one processor. The random access preamble comprises identification information, the random access response being asynchronous and having a variable delay with respect to the random access preamble and the random access response addresses the random access preamble based on the identification information. The at least one processor is configured to receive the random access response within a predetermined time window from when the random access preamble was sent. An apparatus and a method for wireless communication are disclosed. The apparatus comprises at least one processor configured to receive a random access preamble sent by a user equipment (UE) for system access, and send a random access response to the UE and a memory coupled to the at least one processor. The at least one processor is configured to receive from the random access preamble a random identifier (ID) used as the identification information, to determine a temporary ID based on the random ID, and to send the random access response comprising the temporary ID.

Abstract: UE that are able to cancel interference from CRS, a PDSCH, a PDCCH, or a PCFICH may do so without explicitly signaling the capability to the serving eNB. The serving eNB may transmit to the UE a plurality of cell identifiers to indicate from which cells interference should be canceled. The UE receives CRS, PDSCH, PDCCH, or PCFICH from the serving eNB and cancels CRS, PDSCH, PDCCH, or PCFICH interference, respectively from the signal received from the eNB. The UE cancels the interference from the cells that correspond to the cell identifiers. The UE may then transmit a report to the eNB with a quality measurement without the interference.
