Abstract: A rail vehicle including a wheel assembly having wheels configured to traverse rails of a railroad track, a controller having a processor in communication with the wheel assembly, and a non-transitory computer readable medium, disposed on the vehicle, and containing instructions, which, cause the following steps in real-time as the vehicle traverses the rails: determine a rail pressure of the wheels on the rails, determine a degree of curvature of the rails as the vehicle moves along the railroad track, determine a minimum rail pressure of the wheels on the rails based on the degree of curvature, determine if the rail pressure is equal to or greater than the minimum rail pressure and adjust the rail pressure of the wheels on the rails to be the minimum rail pressure when the rail pressure is less than the minimum rail pressure to maintain stability of the vehicle on the railroad track.

Abstract: System includes a control system used to control operation of a vehicle system as the vehicle system moves along a route. The vehicle system includes a plurality of system vehicles in which adjacent system vehicles are operatively coupled such that the adjacent system vehicles are permitted to move relative to one another. The control system includes one or more processors that are configured to (a) receive operational settings of the vehicle system and (b) input the operational settings into a system model of the vehicle system to determine an observed metric of the vehicle system. The one or more processors are also configured to (c) compare the observed metric to a reference metric and (d) modify the operational settings of the vehicle system based on differences between the observed and the reference metrics.

Abstract: A train system has a locomotive traveling at a controlled speed on a main track, with passenger cars capable of locomotion and of automatic coupling and decoupling, forming a train on the main track. Appropriate passenger cars are decoupled and switched onto a side track at stations to unload passengers while the rest of the train passes the stations without stopping. Passenger cars loaded with passengers at these stations are then deployed to couple-up with the train after it has passed the station. This combines local service with express service. Operation in most cases is guided by a central computer system.

Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling a train movement to a stop at a stopping position between a first position and a second position. Determining constraints of a velocity of the train with respect to a train position forming a feasible region (FR) for a state of the train during the movement, such that a lower curve bounding the FR has a zero velocity only at the first position, and an upper curve bounding the FR has a zero velocity only at the second position. Determining a control invariant subset (CIS) of the FR, wherein for each state within the CIS there is at least one control action having a value selected from a finite set of values that maintains the state of the train within the CIS. Controlling train movement subject to constraints by selecting a control action maintaining the state of the train within the CIS of the FR.

Abstract: A detection system for a locomotive may include a plurality of sensors. An electronic control module may be in communication with, at least, the plurality of sensors and the locomotive. The controller may also be configured to generate configuration commands communicable to the plurality of locomotives via the communicating device based on the user inputs.
