Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for producing a multicoat refinish, in which a metallic basecoat is sprayed on the prepared damage site and the adjacent regions of the old finish, so that it is opaque (hiding) in the region of the damage site and gradually runs out in the region of the old finish. Finally, a clearcoat is applied to the basecoat and, if desired, to the adjacent regions of the old finish. The process is characterized in that 1. during the application of the basecoat composition to the adjacent regions of the old finish, the spraygun is inclined diagonally to the damage site, and 2. during the application of the basecoat composition, a normal or only slightly reduced (3.0-4.5 bar) spraygun pressure is used.
Abstract:
A two-phase acidic aqueous composition for use as a neutralization layer is generally comprised of a water soluble aqueous phase and a water insoluble particle phase. The particle phase generally comprises a copolymer having recurring units of an organic acid monomer and an organic ester monomer. The aqueous phase comprises a water soluble polymer having recurring units of at least an organic acid monomer. The organic acid monomers selected for the aqueous phase polymer are capable of interacting with the particle phase polymers such that the particle phase polymers are brought into stabilizing, intimate association with the aqueous phase.

A process for producing the vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Synergistic thickener mixture comprising a mixture of a polymer of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid and certain water soluble polymers such as the galactomannan gums, derivatives thereof, cellulose derivatives and polyoxyalkylene oxide polymers. The composition finds utility in earth formation fracturing, textile print pastes, suspending pigments in paints and gelling alcohol-based cosmetic formulations.
Abstract:
An aqueous plastic dispersion which is based on three vinyl polymers differing in type and properties, and which additionally contains a filler, is prepared by mixing a mixture of aqueous dispersions of the polymers in question with an aqueous suspension of the filler. The most important distinguishing characteristic of the polymers mentioned is their glass transition temperature. A fibrous material is employed as the filler. The plastic dispersion is suitable as a starting material for the preparation of sheets with vibration-damping properties.
Abstract:
PROCESSES ARE DISCLOSED FOR COAGULATING AND REDISPERSING AQUEOUS DISPERSIONS OF POLYMERIC COMPOUNDS WHICH CONTAIN ANIONIC SULFOXY GROUPS THEREON. ENERALLY, THE POLYMERIC DISPERSION IS COAGULATED BY ADDING A POLYMERIC COMPOUND CONTAINING PRIMARY AMINE GROUPS THEREON AND PROVIDING A DILUTION RATIO OF A LEAST 100 GRAMS OF LIQUID PER GRAM OF POLYMER COMPRISING ANIONIC SULFOXY GROUPS. THE COAGULATED MATERIAL CAN THEN BE DECANTED AND EASILY REDISPERSED WITH LOW VOLUMES OF LIQUID.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Aqueous polyurethane dispersions and coatings and heat-activatable adhesives made from the dispersions are disclosed. The dispersions include a polyurethane reaction product of a polyester polyol and a polyisocyanate. The polyester polyol comprises recurring units of at least one C2-C6 aliphatic diol, at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic C4-C10 dicarboxylic acid, and an aromatic diacid source, which can be recycled PET. The dispersion is formulated using 1 to 3 moles of an acid-functional diol per mole of polyester polyol. Dispersions for the adhesives are produced at NCO/OH molar ratios within the range of 0.90 to 0.98. The adhesives successfully bond a wide range of plastic and metal materials, often demonstrating substrate failure, even with steel. This contrasts with commercial adhesives such as EVA that exhibit only adhesive failure with the same substrates.
