Abstract:
In cold flow processing of metals, especially steel, coatings of transition metal halogenides, especially FeCl3, have proved suitable because they efficiently counteract cold welding problems. The coatings may be applied in the form of a melt or a saturated or diluted, aqueous solution of the transition metal halogenide. If a melt is used, it may be mixed with one or more common solid lubricants such as MoS2, graphite, or the like.
Abstract:
Alkaline diamine track lubricants for use with glass, aluminum and two-piece PET containers and other articles of manufacture are prepared from an admixture of an alkyl diamine and a water-soluble hydrotrope. The diamine lubricants are prepared without the neutralization thereof and have a corrosion inhibitor which is, preferably, a reducing agent and a biocide incorporated therein to. A source of alkalinity may be employed, as well, to maintain the pH above 8.
Abstract:
A rubber or plastic sliding member coated with a material having excellent durability and high slipperiness, wherein the coating material is composed of a solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulfide and a resin matrix comprising a fluoroolefin vinyl ether polymer resin and/or a fluoroolefin vinyl ether/vinyl ester copolymer resin.
Abstract:
The pasty damping agent is used to damp mechanical and/or acoustic oscillations. The agent contains as a minimum compound a solid finely divided substance or a mixture of solid finely divided substances, as a liquid phase, a silicone oil, a polyglycol, a mineral oil and/or a saturated or aromatic aliphatic carbon dioxide ester, an agent for increasing the activity of the limit layer or a surfactant, a magnesium and/or aluminum silicate and/or a silicon dioxide finely divided as a viscosity stabilizer and possibly a small quantity of an empty oxidiser. The damping agent is used in different hydraulic damping devices or for industrial vibration shock absorbers.
Abstract:
The bearing material produced by impregnating in the porous metal or alloy layers, for example, copper or copper-like alloy layers formed by known means, for instance by sintering on the back of a metal plate such as steel, a composition containing 1 to 30% by volume of one or both of a lead-tin alloy, which contains 1 to 25% by volume of lead fluoride and 3 to 30% by weight of tin, and lead wherein the total of the said lead fluoride and lead is 2 to 35% by volume and, as the residual part, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The capacity of the bearing may be further improved by adding about 0.1 to about 5% by weight of at least one member of the additives consisting of molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, cadmium oxide, aluminium oxide, calcium fluoride, lithium fluoride, graphite, lead iodide, glass fibre, carbon fibre and phosphates. The bearing is especially suitable for being applied to the shock absorber of vehicles moving under changeable load.
Abstract:
Lubricant compositions having at least one base oil composition and a friction-reducing composition comprising at least a first diol compound are described. Methods for making such compounds and methods of drilling using such lubricant compositions are also described.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a lubricating oil composition comprising the reaction product of a nitrogen containing reactant wherein the nitrogen containing reactant comprises an alkyl di-alkanolamide, an alkyl di-alkanolamine, or mixtures thereof; an acidic molybdenum compound; and a salicylate compound. Also disclosed is a method for operating an internal combustion engine comprising said lubricating composition and a method for preparing a molybdenum containing friction modifier.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an aqueous pour point depressant dispersion composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer, preferably ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA); a dispersing agent; water; optionally an aqueous freezing point depressant; and optionally a stabilizing agent wherein the volumn average particle size of the dispersed thermoplastic polymer is equal to or less than 1 micrometers and a method to make and use said composition.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for preparing a molybdated succinimide complex, the process comprising: (a) reacting an alkyl or alkenyl mono- or bis-succinimide of a polyamine of formula I or formula II or mixtures thereof: Formula (I), Formula (II) with an α,β-unsaturated mono-carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid ester, and wherein the reaction temperature is in the range of from greater than 80°C to no greater than about 150°C; and (b) reacting the succinimide product of step (a) with an acidic molybdenum compound to provide the molybdated succinimide complex, wherein the molybdated succinimide complex is a liquid at room temperature.
