A grease composition which exhibits a long lifetime even when used in high-temperature atmosphere and excellently low evaporation and which is noncombustible, namely, a grease composition which comprises as the base oil an ionic fluid composed of a cation and an anion and having an ion concentration of 1 mol/dm^3 or above as determined at 20°C and which contains a thickening agent having a dropping point of 260°C or above.

A process for drawing wire employing a lubricant comprising perfluorocarbon compounds (PFCs), including aliphatic perfluorocarbon compounds ( alpha -PFCs) having the general formula CnF2n+2, perfluoromorpholines having the general formula CnF2n+1ON, perfluoroamines (PFAs) and highly fluorinated amines (HFAs), and perfluoroethers (PFEs). Such fully and highly fluorinated carbon compounds exhibit a very high degree of thermal and chemical stability due to the strength of the carbon-fluorine bond. Further, because the compounds are fully fluorinated, and therefore do not contain chlorine and bromine, they have zero ozone depletion potential (ODP). Further, because the compounds are photochemically non-reactive in the atmosphere, they are not precursors to photochemical smog and are exempt from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) volatile organic compound (VOC) definition. Further, because they are volatile, the compounds are easily removed at the end of the process without need for an additional cleaning step. The process provides wire at significantly higher production speeds and longer die life with improved quality and less byproduct debris.

A mandrel lubricant for use in the manufacture of seamless tubes is described, which mandrel lubricant is composed of graphite, clay minerals from the class of smectites, a polysaccharide and, if required, a surfactant. The mandrel lubricant is applied in the form of an aqueous dispersion to mandrels which have passed through the cooling bath.

Um einen Hochtemperatur-Schmierstoff mit gutem Riesel- und Fließverhalten zur Zunderauflösung auf erhitzten Metalloberflächen bereitzustellen, der in Pulverform aufgebracht eine gute Belegung der Metalloberfläche erlaubt und auch nach längerer Lagerung unter Produktionsbedingungen noch gute Riesel- und Fließeigenschaften ohne starke Verklumpung aufweist und der die Verwendung von Graphit vermeidet, wird erfindungsgemäß vorgeschlagen, dass das Gemisch wenigstens die folgenden Bestandteile a) eine sekundäre und/oder tertiäre Calciumphosphatverbindung, b) eine Fettsäure oder ein Fettsäuresalz, c) Borsäure, ein Borsäuresalz (Borat) und/oder ein Borsäuresalz (Borat) enthaltendes Mineral und d) kondensierte Alkaliphosphate enthält und wobei die Bestandteile des Gemischs eine mittlere Korngröße von 150 µm aufweisen und der Schmierstoff keinen Zusatz von Graphit enthält.

Es wird besonders zum Schmieren von Dornstangen bei der Herstellung nahtloser Metallrohre verwendet.
