In at least some implementations, a cable control system includes a spool on which a portion of a cable may be taken up and released, an input shaft coupled to the spool, and a motor coupled to the input shaft to drive the input shaft and spool in a first direction to take up cable on the spool and in a second direction to release cable from the spool. The control system also has two clutches that allow rotation of the spool without corresponding rotation of the motor. Each clutch may have a first member coupled to the input shaft and a second member coupled to the spool and relative rotation between the first and second members of the clutch allows rotation of the spool relative to the motor or input shaft.

The second component is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the first component. A damper device includes a housing assembly supported by the first component and a finger attached to the second component such that the finger is movable with the second component between the first and second positions. The finger and the housing assembly are spaced from each other when the second component is in the first position, and the finger slidingly engages the housing assembly as the second component moves to the second position such that frictional engagement between the finger and the housing assembly dampens movement of the second component relative to the first component.

A hinge on a cover for a container, has a pivot axis and includes at least one first member fixed against rotation and at least one second member rotatable about the axis, which first and second members are arranged coaxially along the axis. A third member is arranged coaxial with the first and second members. A damper element is provided between the first and the third members in order to dampen the relative rate of rotation between the members. A first spring is arranged between the second and the third tubular members, which first spring is connected to the respective second and third members so that relative rotation between the tubular members is permitted in a first direction, when the cover is pivoted towards a first position, and prevented in a second direction, when the cover is pivoted towards a second position. A container provided with such a hinge is described.

The invention is based on the object of driving a trunk lid or hard or soft tops of a vehicle by a motor as efficiently and as economically as possible. Typically a hydraulic cylinder having very high energy density, or an electromechanical spindle drive, generally provided with a planetary gear as is known from DE 10 2004 040 170 A 1, is used today. Said arrangement has the disadvantage that the transmission comprises several wheels in order to enable an accordingly high gear ratio for the required slow rotational movement of the spindle. In the process, a loud operating noise is produced. The invention relates to a linear drive having a high-ratio single-step manual transmission and the possibility of integrating an energy storage, for example a helical spring or a gas pressure spring, and the possibility of integrating a hydraulic brake. The invention is particularly suitable for driving a cover or panels/doors/tops/moveable hardtops or other moveable components on vehicles, on other mobile systems or on stationary devices. It is supported on the vehicle body or the stationary device and on the cover or the moveable element, which in turn is rotatably connected to a hinge on the vehicle body or the stationary device.
