Abstract:
The use in otherwise conventional polyolefin extrusion foaming process of a stability control agent, in conjunction with certain binary or ternary mixed blowing agent systems containing 1,2-dichlorotetrafluoroethane provides closed-cell olefin polymer foam articles having increased maximum cross-sections, smooth skins and good dimensional stability.
Abstract:
Carbonate polymer composition comprising a carbonate polymer having dispersed therein a metal salt of an aromatic sulfimide and a metal sulfate or bisulfate having a pka from 1 to 5 inclusive whereby the sulfimide is used in an amount to provide improved flame retardancy and sulfate or bisulfate is used in an amount to provide increased processing stability. The use of metal sulfates or metal bisulfates is effective in reducing molecular weight changes during melt shearing.
Abstract:
A process for dimensionally stabilizing low density foamed polyolefins by incorporating a specific unsaturated nitrogen-containingcompound represented by formula (I), wherein at least one of R1, R2 and X is unsaturated; and/or formula (II), wherein at least one of R5, R6 and Y is unsaturated.
Abstract:
Packaging containers which are closed, except for a pinch-type filling valve or filling-opening, are provided with an RF-sealable polymer, at least in the valve or opening, in order to be able to seal the valve or opening using RF frequency. Preferably, polymers which are sealable using MW energy are used, including, preferably, carbon monoxide-containing ethylene polymers.
Abstract:
Rubber modified copolymers of a vinyl aromatic monomer and optionally a copolymerizable polar comonomer are prepared in a continuous, recirculated reactor process at a recirculation ratio in the range from 3 to 60.
Abstract:
Thermosettable compositions which are prepared by reacting (A) a pyridine compound containing at least two substituent groups which have at least one hydrogen atom attached to a carbon atom which is attached to the ring or mixture of such pyridines; (B) at least one material having at least two aldehyde groups; and (C) at least one aldehyde containing at least one polymerizable unsaturated group; wherein components (A), (B) and (C) are employed in quantities which provide a mole ratio of (C):(B):(A) of from about 0.25:0,25:1 to about 4:4:1. These thermosettable compositions can be cured by heat and pressure or by homopolymerization in the presence of or by copolymerization with an N,N'-bis-imide. The compositions are useful as light weight fire resistant interior and exterior parts or panels for the aerospace and/or aircraft industry and the like.
Abstract:
Process for absorbing water in the form of an aqueous medium having a pH of less than 4. The process comprises contacting said aqueous medium with a water-swellable polymer comprising an alkali metal sulfonic acid salt containing polyelectrolyte which is crosslinked in an amount sufficient to provide swellability to said polyelectrolyte. For example, a crosslinked polymer containing polymerized acrylamide and sodium 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropane sulfonate can be used to remove acidic water from, for example, fuels, battery casings.
Abstract:
A process whereby an amine functional compound having an equivalent weight of at least about 400 is reacted with an excess of a polyisocyanate to form an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer or quasi prepolymer, which prepolymer or quasi prepolymer is reacted with an isocyanate-reactive material to form a polyurea and/or polyurea-polyurethane polymer. The amine functional compound and the polyisocyanate are employed in proportions such that the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer or quasi prepolymer has an isocyanate content of from 3 to 12 percent by weight.
Abstract:
Method for increasing the gel strength of a water-absorbent compositon comprising a water-absorbent amount of a crosslinked water-swellable hydrophilic polymer and an inorganic powder in an amount sufficient to increase the gel strength of the water-absorbent composition. The method is characterized by physically blending the inorganic polymer with the polymer after the polymer has been polymerized and crosslinked. The compositions produced by the method of this invention can be incorporated into applications useful in removing water from numerous systems.
