Abstract: In general, A collapsible cascading overhead door assembly (10) for closing a vehicular access opening of a structure includes a flexible door panel member (12) made up of a plurality of rigid slat members (13) each having a pair of hinge tab members (25, 26). A pair of elongated track members (15) having a generally G-shaped cross-section are affixed to an opening jamb (11) of the building structure, the flexible door panel member (12) being slidably disposed in the track members (15). A pair of flag bracket members (17) are affixed to the elongated track members (15). A support enclosure (16) is mounted on the flag brackets (17) and is adapted to maintain the door panel (12) in the stored position. An elongated, polygonal-shaped drive wheel member (66) has a plurality of sides (76) of equal width approximating the width of the rigid slat members (13). The sides (76) are angularly interconnected with one another to form a plurality of angular engaging faces (77) at the junction of the sides (76) and also to form a hollow portion inside the drive wheel (66). A drive bracket (65) rotatably supports the drive wheel (66), the drive bracket (65) with the drive wheel (66) supported therein, being mounted in the support enclosure (16) adjacent to the track members (17). A counterbalance (67) is disposed in the hollow portion of the drive wheel (66). The flexible door panel member (12) is pivotally affixed in the support enclosure (16) and drapes over the drive wheel (66) such that the hinge tabs (25, 26) of one of the slat members (13) operatively engages the angular engaging faces (77) of the drive wheel (66) whereby rotation of the drive wheel (66) in a first direction serves to raise the door panel (12) in the track members (15) and causes the door panel (12) to double back on itself in the support enclosure (16), and rotation of the drive wheel (66) in a second direction serves to cascade the door panel member (12) out of the support enclosure (16) and to lower the door panel member (12) in the track members (15).

Abstract: A cover device for a door closure mechanism includes a detachably mounted shell which has a generally C-shaped cross section and is formed by an elongated wall. The wall has an inside surface which terminates laterally in opposing side edges. An elongated trough extends adjacent the inside surface of the wall and is adapted to receive the door closure housing. A pair of opposing jaw members protrude from the inside surface of the wall adjacent each of the side edges respectively. The opposing jaw members define a lateral opening, the lateral opening is smaller than the diameter of trough. The jaw members are resiliently or elastically deflectable in an outward direction to enlarge the throat opening so as to permit the door closure housing to be inserted laterally into the trough. Once the jaw members have been deflected over the full diameter of the housing, the jaw members spring inwardly to frictionally retain the cover on the door closure housing of the door closure mechanism.

Abstract: A door operator for a reversibly operable door, such as a garage door, includes a frame and a carriage movably mounted on the frame and attached to a door for moving the door between open and closed positions. A flexible drive member, such as an endless chain, extends on the frame and is capable of moving the carriage. A drive train is on the frame connected for moving the flexible drive member. A motor housing is mounted on the frame within the motor housing and connected to the drive train. The motor has a shaft extending from the motor housing and engaging the drive train. A bearing assembly that includes metal thrust bearings is on the shaft adjacent to the motor. The metal thrust bearing assembly increases the performance of the electric motor, and thus provides a more powerful motor without changing to a larger motor or otherwise modifying the motor design. The motor is mounted on the frame so as to allow the shaft freely to move axially relative to the motor to permit the shaft to self-align. The rotor thus seeks its position of least resistance and maintains this position without manual adjustment, providing an improvement in motor performance.

Abstract: A rail assembly for a sliding door or sliding window includes a plurality of rails having a recess at top portion of each to receive a ball of a guide block therein. A rail cover is provided with a pair of identical troughs on a top portion thereof and in parallel to each other to receive the guide block to extend therefrom. A plurality of paper rolls are provided each having an aperture at one end for attachment to the guide block, and a hole at a center portion to receive a coil spring therein to provide a restoring force to the paper roll. Abstract: An opener for a sliding panel closure of a wall opening has a toothed belt horizontally disposed between a toothed sprocket and an arcuate grooved shoe located within a threshold plate extending across the opening adjacent a channel strip within which the panel slides. A bracket attaches the panel to the belt which moves the panel between closed and open positions by a shaft coupled through an electrical clutch between the sprocket and a motor. A solenoid driven armature raises and lowers a pin relative to the sprocket teeth to lock panel movement. A handle and latch provides override to unlock the panel for manual operation. The motor, clutch, solenoid and all other electrical components are separately housed marginally of the opening, at a location above the threshold to protect them from water.

Abstract: A door check wherein a housing is affixed to the pivotable panel and a guide rail is affixed to the frame of a door. The housing contains a shaft which is rigidly connected with one end of an arm the other end of which is slidably guided by the rail. The shaft carries a disc cam having two asymmetric sections one of which is tracked by a spring-biased follower surrounding an antifriction bearing and tending to return the panel to its closed position and the other of which is tracked by a roller on the piston of a damper which yieldably opposes the movement of the panel back to its closed position. The configuration of the two cam sections is selected with a view to allow for a reduction of the resistance which the follower offers to opening of the door shortly after the panel leaves its closed position as well as to ensure that the damper can operate independently of the follower and vice versa. The damper has a spring which urges the roller against the cam and whose bias is not more than 50 percent of the bias of one or more springs which urge the follower against the cam.

Abstract: A lead post assembly is provided for an elongated overhead track along which a folding partition including a leading edge is to be extended and retracted. The lead post assembly includes a carriage guidingly engaged with the track for shifting therealong and a vertical lead post member whose upper end portion is pivotally suspended from the carriage. A horizontal bar underlies the track and extends longitudinally therealong with one end of the bar being rigidly anchored relative to the carriage and the other end of the bar projecting along the track in the direction of retraction of the lead post assembly therealong. A guide is guidingly engaged with the track for shifting therealong and to which the other end of the bar is rigidly anchored.
