Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord for rubber article reinforcement and a pneumatic tire using the same that are compatible with the rubber permeability and the productivity, and can reduce the weight of the tire without diminishing the strength in the case of applying it for the tire.SOLUTION: The steel cord for rubber article reinforcement comprises a core in which two core filaments 1 are arranged in parallel without twisting these, and six sheath filaments 2 twisted around the core. A distance D between the average sheath filaments as indicated by the following formula (I) is 25 to 80 μm: D=[L-6ds{1+(L/p)}]/6, where the diameter of the core filament 1 is dc (mm), the diameter of the sheath filament 2 is ds (mm), and the pitch for twisting the sheath filament 2 is p (mm), and where L=(&pgr;+2)dc+&pgr;ds.

Abstract: ゴム製品を補強するように構成されたスチールコード１０であって、芯１２及び該芯１２の周りに撚られ、かつ円形断面を有するフィラメント１４の層を有しているスチールコード。 芯１２が波形状の偏平ワイヤを有し、該波形状が偏平ワイヤの平面内に横たわっている。 偏平ワイヤは、先に丸線ワイヤを波付けした後に波付けしたワイヤを偏平化することによって得られる。 層のフィラメントは、実質的に互いに接触していないので、互いの間に空間が形成され、コードへの十分なゴム浸透性が確保される。 このようなスチールコードによって、破断点伸びが向上することとなる。
