Abstract: A composition suitable for the production of protective coatings, especially for the inhibition of fouling, more particularly in marine environments, which comprises: (A) a polymer carrying pendant and/ or terminal curable functional groups, at least a major proportion of the repeating units in the polymer of (A) being other th an siloxane units, and (B) a curable organohydrogen polysiloxane or polydiorganosiloxane, the curable functional groups in component (A) being capable of undergoing a condensation curing reaction with component (B), and normally also a solvent and a curing catalyst. The compositions provide coatings having good adhesion and mechanical durability, and require only moisture curing at ambient temperature.

Abstract: The present invention provides an ambient temperature cured coated articles where the coating is rubbery, high elongation, weatherable coating composition as a mixture of two parts, one part containing a solution of a functional film forming polymer, and the other part providing the curing component. The stability as a premixed, one-part solution is limited to up to several months. The curable film former and curing component are mixed together at an overall 4% to 25% solids content. The viscosity is less than 20,000 cps (Brookfield) such that the coating can be sprayed, brushed or dipped to form thin coatings of from 0.001 - 0.020 mils. Coated rubber articles containing metal conductive particles exhibit heat emissive properties useful for extending the service life of the articles.

Abstract: An absorbent binder desiccant composition is provided which is capable of spontaneous crosslinking after application to a substrate, at a temperature of about 120° C. or less. The absorbent binder desiccant composition includes a monoethylenically unsaturated polymer, such as carboxylic acid, sulphonic acid, or phosphoric acid, or salts thereof, or a quaternary ammonium salt, and an acrylate or methacrylate ester that contains an alkoxysilane functionality, or a monomer capable of co-polymerization with a compound containing a trialkoxy silane functional group and subsequent reaction with water to form a silanol group, and a desiccant component. The absorbent binder desiccant composition is particularly suitable for use in manufacturing a wide variety of humidity control articles.

Abstract: The process comprises, (a) adding to a polymerizable composition containing a component A comprising at least one silane compound containing at least one epoxy group and at least two alkoxy groups directly bonded to the Si atom of the molecule or hydrolysate thereof and a component B comprising fine particles of silica, an effective amount of at least one cationic photopolymerization initiator and an effective amount of at least one thermal polymerization catalyst, (b) coating at least one surface of the substrate with the composition resulting from step (a), (c) submitting the coated substrate to a photopolymerization step for pre-curing the coating layer; and thereafter, (d) submitting the substrate with the pre-cured coating layer thereon to a thermal curing at a predetermined temperature and for a predetermined time to complete curing of the coating layer.
