Abstract:
Masking tapes that changes color when the tape is rubbed down or dispensed onto an adherend and methods of making such tapes are disclosed herein. The tape includes a backing, a layer of adhesive on the bottom surface of the backing, and a release structure on the top surface of the backing that includes a pressure-chromic indicator and a release layer. The pressure-chromic indicator is characterized in that it is not activated by the pressure applied during the manufacturing process, but is activated by the pressure applied when the tape is rubbed or dispensed onto an adherend.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a self adhesive ink jet printable polymer film. The film comprises a polymeric resin and a low surface energy additive that is in a substantially free form. The polymeric resin can be PVC, and the low surface energy additive can be silicone. The film comprising the low surface energy additive exhibits high print resolution and substantially uniform printing quality even after the print surface of the film has been in contact with a back surface of a release liner comprising residual silicone.
Abstract:
A hand-tearable masking tape, comprising a plastic backing with a low adhesion backsize on the first major side of the backing and a pressure-sensitive adhesive on the second major side of the backing; wherein the second major side of the backing comprises a microstructured hand-tear pattern and wherein the low adhesion backsize comprises the reaction product of a mercapto-functional silicone macromer.
Abstract:
The invention provides a frameless photo-energy assembly including a photo-energy converter, wherein an edge of the photo-energy converter is sealed by an adhesive tape, comprising an adhering layer for adhesion and cushioning; and an aging-resistant protective layer. The adhering layer is used to contact the edge of an article and comprises: a substrate layer; optionally, a first adhesive layer and a second adhesive layer situated at both sides of the substrate layer oppositely, wherein the first adhesive layer being used to be contact with the article. The aging-resistant protective layer is situated on the adhering layer, which comprises: an optional primer layer, which is situated on the adhering layer; and a film layer, which is situated on either the primer layer or the substrate or the second adhesive layer. The invention further provides an adhesive tape for sealing an edge of an article and an article made of the assembly.
Abstract:
Low adhesion backsize (LAB) compositions including a silicone macromonomer co polymerized with a crystalline (meth)acrylate monomer to form a copolymer. The copolymer exhibits a glass transition temperature of from about -15°C to about 55°C, and a crystalline melt transition of from about 25°C to about 80°C. Articles including the LAB composition applied to a first major surface of a substrate. In some exemplary embodiments, the article is an adhesive article. In certain exemplary embodiments, the article is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) article. In some particular embodiments, the PSA article includes a silicone adhesive applied to a second major surface of the substrate opposite the LAB composition. Methods of making and using the LAB and the articles are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The disclosed invention relates to a method of making a dry paint transfer laminate 100, comprising: extruding a paint film layer 110 over a release liner 130; and extruding a pressure sensitive adhesive layer 120 over the paint film layer 110, wherein the release liner 130 comprises: a backing liner 132 having an upper surface 133 and a lower surface 134; a first release coating layer135 overlying the upper surface 134 of the backing liner 132; the first release coating layer 135 comprising a resinous material hardened or cured to bond to the backing liner 132 and form a matte release surface spaced from the backing liner 132, the matte release surface contacting the extruded paint film layer 110; the matte release surface of the release liner 130 releasably adhered to the paint film layer 110 for transferring a matte finish to the paint film layer 110 when the release liner 130 is removed therefrom.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing a tear-off strip, comprising the following steps: providing a base material in the form of a flexible film; coating a first side of the film with a solvent-free silicone that can be cross-linked using UV radiation; cross-linking the silicone using UV radiation, and; applying a contact adhesive to a second side of the film.
Abstract:
A low noise pressure-sensitive adhesive tape is disclosed that includes a release coating that includes the reaction product of: (i) from 15-35 wt.-% silicone MQ-resins bearing one or more (meth)acrylate functional groups; (ii) from 50-85 wt.-% long chain radiation curable organopolysiloxane where at least one (meth)acrylate group is present on the organopolysiloxane; (iii) less than 25 wt.-% short chain radiation curable organopolysiloxane where at least one (meth)acrylate group is present on the organopolysiloxane; and (iv) an effective amount of photoinitiator, the weight percentage given for component (i, ii and iii), respectively, referring to the sum of the masses of components (i, ii and iii) which add up to 100 wt.-%.
Abstract:
A linerless label includes a paper substrate having a weight of about 60 lbs. per 3,000 square feet with a pressure sensitive adhesive (preferably a repositional adhesive) substantially covering one face and a release coating substantially covering the other face. The release coating has pen or felt tip marker receptivity and comprises at least about 90 % by weight of about 100 % concentration UV curable silicone, and at least 2 % by weight photoinitiator, and a coat weight of at least about ten grams per square meter. For pen receptivity the release coating may comprise about 96.5 % silicone and about 3.5 % photoinitiator. For felt tip marker receptivity the release coating comprises about 95 % silicone and about 5 % photoinitiator. The linerless label typically comprises part of a web of labels in a roll configuration.
