Abstract:
A method to change the color of hair. The method includes measuring an initial reflectance spectrum of a sample of the hair and analyzing a contribution of a plurality of natural hair factors to the initial reflectance spectrum. The method also includes calculating a hair treatment based on another reflectance spectrum. A system to measure a reflectance spectrum of a sample includes an integrating sphere having a sampling port and an inner surface and a window disposed near the sampling port. The window is configured for being placed in close contact with the sample. The system also includes a light source configured to project light onto the sample via the window and a light detector configured to analyze light reflected from the inner surface to produce the reflectance spectrum of the sample.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a colour recipe calculation method for matt finished, solid colour shades, by means of which it is possible to determine the proportion of matting agents in a colour recipe in a manner decoupled from the actual calculation of the recipe and is based on a conventional spectrophotometric characterization of a matt sample using a standardised 45null/0null measurement geometry along with an established gloss measurement, or alternatively using a spectrophotometer equipped with a d/8null measurement geometry and analyzing readings taken with the specular component included and excluded.
Abstract:
A collector (202) captures light from source images as a field of pixels, a color analyzer (292) analyzes a proper subset (420) of the field to produce a plurality of color values, and a cosmetic analyzer then uses the color values to produce a cosmetic color determination. Another aspect of the present invention comprises a window having a light passage area, a color calibration region that is not coextensive with the light passage area, and a detectable product identification region. The window may also contain a mechanism that tends to preclude multiple uses. A third aspect of the present invention is a system that combines the collector, the color analyzer, the cosmetic analyzer, and window.
Abstract:
An improved process of matching the color of a paint to the pre-existing color of a vehicle is provided. The process includes the steps of exposing a photo-reactive film to the surface of the vehicle whose paint color is to be matched. Once exposed, pigments in the film are activated to mimic precisely the color of the vehicle. The pigments are then extracted, isolated and mixed with a neutral base paint solution, which is tinted by the pigments to match the color of the vehicle. The tinted and matched solution is used for painting or touch-up work on the vehicle.
Abstract:
A colorimeter or color measuring device measures color of a sample or an object, and displays measurement value or values according to user defined index or indices, calculated by a user-defined formula. Data of the user-defined formula is read in from outside of the colorimeter and converted into a coded form which can be executed by a controller of the calorimeter. The data of the user-defined formula or the coded data is stored in the colorimeter. Accordingly, the colorimeter has good portability and convenience despite its capability of expressing the colors of various samples or objects by user-defined original index or indices.
Abstract:
Optical characteristic measuring systems and methods such as for determining the color or other optical characteristics of teeth are disclosed. Perimeter receiver fiber optics preferably are spaced apart from a source fiber optic and receive light from the surface of the object/tooth being measured. Light from the perimeter fiber optics pass to a variety of filters. The system utilizes the perimeter receiver fiber optics to determine information regarding the height and angle of the probe with respect to the object/tooth being measured. Under processor control, the optical characteristics measurement may be made at a predetermined height and angle. Various color spectral photometer arrangements are disclosed. Translucency, fluorescence, gloss and/or surface texture data also may be obtained. Audio feedback may be provided to guide operator use of the system. The probe may have a removable or shielded tip for contamination prevention. A method of producing dental prostheses based on measured data also is disclosed. Measured data also may be stored and/or organized as part of a patient data base. Such methods and implements may be desirably utilized for purposes of detecting and preventing counterfeiting or the like.
Abstract:
An image-splitting color meter. The image-splitting color meter is added at an entrance pupil of a light coming from an observing object to obtain a high uniformity and a high efficiency. The image-splitting device can split the entrance pupil into several partitions for light splitting and color filtering. The split light beams are then converged and focused onto a photodetective plane.

Abstract:
An integrating sphere, and an integrating sphere-based reflectance colorimeter/spectrophotometer for the measurement of color and appearance, having multiple receivers capable of concurrently receiving optical radiation scattered/reflected from a diffusely illuminated sample surface, with the capability of multiple measurement modes (e.g., multiple specular component excluded (SCE), SCE and specular component included (SCI), multiple SCI), multiple areas-of-view for a given measurement mode, multiple viewing angles per measurement mode, and combinations thereof. An embodiment of the invention includes two SCI receivers and two SCE receivers, each disposed at an equal viewing angle relative to the sample surface. For each viewing mode, two sample areas-of-view are provided. The SCE receivers are opposite each other, such that the specular component of each SCE receiver is excluded by the port of the other SCE receiver. The receivers provide the collected light reflected from the sample to a detector which preferably is provided by multiple spectrometers or a single spectrometer having multichannel capability to preferably sense the light from each receiver in parallel.
