This invention relates to aminoplast crosslinker resins compositions based on at least partially alkylated reaction products A of melamine, formaldehyde and an alkanol with the following parameters: the ratio of the amount of substance n (CH 2 O) of combined formaldehyde to the amount of substance n (Mel) of melamine is in the range of from 5.6 mol/mol to 6.2 mol/mol, the ratio of the amount of substance n (RO) of alkyl ether groups in the crosslinker resin to the amount of substance n (Mel) of melamine is in the range of from 5.0 mol/mol to 5.6 mol/mol, the mass fraction of monomer in the resin, calculated as the ratio of the mass of monomer m (1) to the mass m (A) of the reaction products A is between 35 % and 55 %, to a process for their preparation, and to a method of use thereof as crosslinker in combination with hydroxy- functional polymers for coating of heat-sensitive substrates.

This invention relates to a process for the preparation of triazine carbamates by reacting a mixture of an aminotriazine A having at least two amino groups per molecule, an organic carbonate C, and a base B selected from the group consisting of alkoxides, and arylalkoxides of metals M, which may be alkali or earth alkali metals, and a solvent S which is a monohydric alcohol solvent R 2 OH or a mixture of solvents that comprises a monohydric alcohol R 2 OH, and a monohydric alcohol R 3 OH, or a mixture of solvents that comprises a monohydric alcohol R 2 OH with a further solvent selected from the group consisting of ether, alcohol, and hydrocarbon solvents, and adding to the products of the said reaction, an acid or a solution of an acid in a solvent.

The invention relates to a reaction product UA of at least one cyclic urea U and at least one multifunctional aldehyde A which reaction product has as substituents on the carbonyl carbon atoms of the aldehyde A at least one kind of functional groups selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl groups -OH and alkoxy groups -OR characterised in that the groups - OR comprise at least two kinds of alkoxy groups -OR 1 and -OR 2 , where R 1 and R 2 are both selected from the group consisting of linear, branched or cyclic alkyl groups having from one to twelve carbon atoms, where R 1 and R 2 may be the same or may be different from each other, to a process of making these, and to a method of use as crosslinker in coating compositions.

This invention relates to products H made by reaction of a cyclic alkyleneurea U, at least one multifunctional aldehyde A2, and at least one of (a) an aminoplast former M that is not the same as the cyclic alkyleneurea U, and (b) a monofunctional aldehyde A1, which product H is optionally etherified by reaction of at least a part of the hydroxyl groups formed by addition reaction of N—H groups and aldehyde groups, with an alcohol having from one to ten carbon atoms, and wherein glyoxal is present in the at least one multifunctional aldehyde A2, to processes for their preparation, and to a method of use thereof in coating compositions.
