Abstract: The application is to chokes or transformers where the inductance has to be set accurately during manufacture, for example, as used in line control in television receivers. The yoke and limbs of a core carry windings and the magnetic circuit is closed by an armature. The air gap between limbs and armature is formed by a non-magnetic and preferably non-metallic insert which is held in position by, for example, a contact adhesive. The insert is corrugated, ridged, or waffled such that by application of pressure the air gap can readily be varried. Te adhesive then holds the components together at the final gap setting.

Abstract: Electric film-resistors consist of a ceramic substrate, the resistor layer and a glazed coating, where the resistor is pre-heated and the glaze applied by flame-spraying using a glaze which, in the molten state, does not react with the resistor layer. The resistance film may consist of carbon, metal, metal-oxide, or a conductive glaze, on a ceramic substrate with end-caps and connecting wires which can be used to hold the resistors during the flame-spraying process. After the initial pre-heating, the finely-powdered glaze is pref. applied in stages, the glaze being melted by the flame after each stage. In this way, a coating free of gas bubbles is obtained. A separate flame can be used for pre-heating and the process is suitable for mass-prodn. The glaze confers excellent resistance to moisture and gases, with high dielectric strength, and is far superior to synthetic resin coatings.
