A solvent extraction composition and process for using the composition is provided. The composition contains up to 70% by weight of at least one orthohydroxyarylketoxime extractant and /or at least one orthohydroxyarylaldoximes extractant, salts and mixtures thereof; from about 0.1 to about 20 % by weight of at least one substantially water insoluble aromatic hydroxy containing antidegradation agents. The composition optionally contains an equilibrium modifier.

A method to inhibit autoprecipitation of aluminum containing compounds in a Bayer process liquor includes adding an effective amount of a polysaccharide to the Bayer process liquor. Polysaccharides which are added in accordance with the present method selected from gum arahic, tamarind gum, gum ghatti and mixtures thereof. Effective addition sites for the autoprecipitation inhibitor are prior to filtering clarified process liquor and subsequent to condensation of caustic soda from spent process liquor.

Materials and a method are provided whereby polymers with least 0.5 mole % of the pendant group or end group containing --Si (OR") 3 (where R" is H, an alkyl group, Na, K, or NH 4 ) are used to control aluminosilicate scaling in an industrial process having an alkaline process stream such as a pulping mill process stream or a high level nuclear waste processing plant. When materials of the present invention are added to the alkaline process stream, they reduce and even completely prevent formation of aluminosilicate scale on equipment surfaces such as evaporator walls and heating surfaces. The present materials are effective at treatment concentrations that make them economically practical.

Stabilizer compositions comprise phosphate of the formula (I) or (II), a phosphite of the formula (III), and a phenol of the formula (IV) as these formulas are defined herein. The stabilizer compositions are useful for stabilizing polymers. Methods for making stabilized polymer compositions involve intermixing the stabilizer compositions and the polymers, e.g., by extruding, pelletizing, and/or molding.

Compounds of the formula (I) as defined herein are useful for stabilizing spandex. Stabilized spandex compositions are obtained by intermixing spandex polymer or prepolymer with stabilizing amounts of one or more compounds of the formula (I). Preferred stabilized spandex polymer or prepolymer compositions exhibit improved color stability.

This invention relates to a method of achieving a solid-liquid separation of an oil-based mud comprising the step of contacting said oil-based mud with a water-in-oil emulsion comprising a polymer derived from at least one water-soluble monomer, where the polymer is not dissolved prior to contact with the oil-based mud, mixing the water-in-oil emulsion and the oil-based mud and separating the solid phase from the liquid phase in the oil-based mud. In addition, this invention also relates to a composition comprising an oil-based mud with a water-in-oil emulsion comprising a polymer derived from at least one water-soluble monomer, wherein the polymer is not dissolved prior to contact with the oil-based mud.

This invention relates to an UV stabilizing additive composition comprising an ortho-hydroxy triazine compound, a hindered hydroxybenzoate compound and optionally a hindered amine compound. This additive composition may be used to stabilize materials from UV radiation. This invention also contemplates a method of stabilizing a material by contacting the material with the UV stabilizing additive composition.
