Abstract: A method of storing data to an aggregate storage system including: receiving data at the aggregate storage system, wherein the aggregate storage system includes a random-access storage component and a sequential-access storage component, and wherein the data includes one or more data portions and one or more metadata portions; identifying each portion of the data as either one of the data portions or one of the metadata portions; in response to determining that one of the metadata portions is identified, writing the metadata portion to the random-access storage component and the sequential-access storage component; and in response to determining that one of the data portions is identified, writing the data portion only to the sequential-access storage component.

Abstract: A distributed control protocol dynamically establishes high availability (HA) partner relationships for nodes in a cluster. A HA partner relationship may be established by copying (mirroring) information maintained in a non-volatile random access memory (N VRAM) of a node over a HA interconnect to the NVRAM of a partner node in the cluster. The distributed control protocol leverages a Cluster Liveliness and Availability Manager (CLAM) utility of a storage operating system executing on the nodes to rebalance NVRAM mirroring and alter HA partner relationships of the nodes in the cluster. The CLAM utility is configured to maintain various cluster related issues, such as CLAM quorum events, addition or subtraction of a node in the cluster and other changes in configuration of the cluster. Notably, the CLAM utility is an event based manager that implements the control protocol to keep the nodes informed of any cluster changes through event generation and propagation.

Abstract: A hybrid media storage architecture has a log-structured file system configured to control a plurality of different storage media organized as hybrid storage media that cooperate to provide a total storage space of a storage system. The log-structured file system is configured to perform initial placement and migration of data, as well as fine-grain write allocation of the data, among storage space locations of the hybrid storage media to thereby improve the performance characteristics of the media. By defining and implementing heuristics and policies directed to, e.g., types of data, the file system may initially place data on any of the different media and thereafter migrate data between the media at fine granularity and without the need for manual enforcement.

Abstract: In one embodiment, distributed data storage systems and methods are described for integrating a change tracking manager with scalable databases. According to one embodiment, a computer implemented method comprises managing storage of objects and continuously tracking changes of the objects in a distributed object storage database, creating a record for an object having an object name, the object being stored in a bucket of the distributed object storage database, linking the bucket to a peer bucket based on a directive, generating a peer marker field for the record to store one peer marker of multiple different peer markers depending on a relationship between the bucket and the peer bucket; and automatically adding a work item for the object to the secondary index of a chapter database based on the record being created in the bucket and the peer marker for the peer bucket.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and machine-readable media are disclosed for detecting sensitive personal information in a file. An entity extractor may extract a set of terms and a set of person candidates from a sentence in a file. Each term of the set of terms belongs to a set of sensitive categories. For a verb in the sentence, a relationship builder may determine a relationship between the respective verb, a subject, and an object in the sentence, where the respective verb, the subject, or the object includes a term. An event detector may determine, based on the relationship, that the term relates to a person from the set of set of person candidates and to a sensitive category. The event detector may create an event specifying the term, the sensitive category, and the person in response to determining that the term relates to the person and to the sensitive category.
