Abstract:
The invention encompasses oral care compositions comprising one or more active component and one or more adhesive polymers, which cause the active component to adhere to the tooth surface. In certain embodiments the active agent is an occlusion agent. The invention also encompasses methods of treating the teeth or a teeth surface with an active agent. In certain embodiments, the invention encompasses treating the teeth with an occlusion agent to prevent or alleviate tooth sensitivity.
Abstract:
An oral composition comprising an orally acceptable vehicle for such composition, an effective therapeutic amount of an antibacterial compound comprising a halogenated diphenyl ether, an effective therapeutic amount of an anti- hypersensitivity agent comprising a potassium salt, and a solubilizing agent for the antibacterial compound, the solubilizing agent comprising, in combination, sodium lauryl sulfate and a cyclodextrin.
Abstract:
The invention includes methods of cleaning an oral surface, maintaining oral health and/or increasing oral health. Such methods encompass contacting an oral surface with a primary oral care composition at least once daily, contacting the oral surface with a periodic oral care maintenance composition at least once monthly, wherein the periodic oral care maintenance composition comprises a basic amino acid, in free or salt form and optionally contacting the oral surface with a periodic oral care cleaning composition at least once monthly. The periodic oral care cleaning compositions suitable for use in the method comprise an abrasive system.
Abstract:
An oral care composition having a first phase of clinically efficacious 2,4,4'-trichloro 2'-hydroxydiphenyl ether admixed in a first orally acceptable aqueous vehicle, and a second phase having a stannous salt (such as stannous fluoride) admixed in a second orally acceptable aqueous vehicle. The second phase has no less than 10 molar percent of soluble stannous ion respective to a mathematical sum of moles of the soluble stannous ion and moles of the stannous salt in the second phase. In one embodiment, the two phases are provided in a dual-tube toothpaste oral care kit.
Abstract:
Oral care compositions containing: a free-B-ring flavonoid and a flavan; as well as at least one bioavailability-enhancing agent are provided. Methods of using the oral compositions are also provided.
Abstract:
A stable and efficacious antiplaque, anticalculus, and antigingivitis oral composition is provided having an antibacterial ingredient comprising one or more active compounds found in an extract of magnolia combined with an anticalculus system comprising tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP) about 1 to about 2.5% and sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) about 1 to about 10%. The oral composition can be in the form of a mouth rinse or dentifrice, including toothpaste, gels, powders, as well as confectionaries, lozenges, and the like. Methods of making and using the oral composition are also provided.
Abstract:
An anti-staining, antibacterial dentifrice comprises an anti-staining effective amount of an orally acceptable polymer or copolymer that comprises a plurality of monomeric groups of formula (I) wherein (a) one of A and A' is hydrogen and the other is a moiety (X) n (R) m , (b) n in individual such moieties is independently 0 or 1, (c) linking groups X if present independently comprise an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon atom, (d) where n is 0, m is 1, and where n is 1, m is independently an integer from 1 to 3 as determined by X, (e) terminal groups R are independently hydrogen or C 1-18 organic radicals, and (f) M and M' are independently selected from hydrogen, alkali metal and ammonium; said polymer or copolymer having an average molecular weight of at least about 1,000. The dentifrice further comprises an antibacterial effective amount of an orally acceptable halogenated diphenylether antibacterial agent, and an antibacterial enhancing effective amount of an orally acceptable polyvinylmethylether/maleic anhydride copolymer.
Abstract:
A method for whitening a dental surface comprises nonsimultaneously applying a whitening composition to the surface, the whitening composition comprising at least one orally acceptable peroxy compound, and directing a volume of up to about 2.5 ml of an atomized activating composition on to the surface, wherein the activating composition comprises, in the volume so directed, a peroxy compound activating effective amount of at least one orally acceptable basifying agent, and wherein applying the whitening composition and directing the activating composition are separated by an interval not greater than a peroxy compound activating effective interval. The atomized composition can be directed on to the dental surface before or after application of the whitening composition.
Abstract:
A stable, nonaqueous liquid tooth whitening composition comprised of an anhydrous peroxide compound dispersed in an orally acceptable mixture of an anhydrous hydrophilic polymer and an adhesion enhancer which composition when applied topically to tooth surfaces forms an adherent layer containing the peroxide compound which peroxide compound is thereafter is released from the layer to effect tooth whitening.
