Abstract:
Line (20) and field (40) deflection circuits generate line and field deflection currents in respective line (LH) and field (Lv) deflection windings to scan a raster on the phosphor screen of a square-planar picture tube having an aspherical faceplate. The asphericity of the faceplate (30) subjects the scanned raster to gullwing distortion. A gullwing distortion correction circuit (70) is responsive to signals repeating at line and field rates, respectively, for modulating the field deflection current during a line deflection period within the field deflection trace interval in a manner that corrects gullwing distortion of a corresponding raster scan line.

Noise reduction is achieved in a system without the introduction of noticeable artifacts in the displayed image by using (1) a non-ringing, non-aliasing, localized transfer, octave-band spectrum analyzer (200) to derive respective subspectra signals (LO ..... LN), (2) separate coring circuits (202-1 ......... 202N) for coring one or more of the analyzed subspectra signals, and (3) a synthesizer (206) employing one or more non-ringing, non-aliasing filters (204-1 ...... 204N) for deriving an output image-representing signal (IR) from all of the subspectra signals.
Abstract:
A phase-locked laser array (10) including a plurality of closely spaced channels (26) in the surface (20) of the substrate (18) with lands (24) therebetween with the laser oscillation occurring in a cavity region over each of the channels (26). A broad-area electrical contact (44) provides uniform electrical current flow to each of the lasing regions. The individual oscillators are coupled by the overlap of their evanescent optical fields. The invention also includes a method of fabricating this array (10) which includes the steps of forming a plurality of corrugations in the surface of a substrate (300), forming a solution having a super-saturated growth condition for planar and concave surfaces and an under-saturated growth condition for convex surfaces, contacting the corrugated surface to the solution thereby partially melting the convex portions of the surface and forming planar lands (502) between the concave portions of the corrugations. Growth over the lands is delayed thereby providing a planar surface of the first layer upon which the remaining layers are then sequentially deposited.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A diffractive subtractive color filter (Fig. 1) includes a variable index-of-refraction optical medium (100) of certain minimum thickness (t) and periodicity (d) with respect to the wavelength of incident light. The filter meets certain specified constraints with respect to: (1) relative indices-of-refraction of both its internal structure and that of its surroundings (114, 116), (2) relative values of incident wavelength to periodicity and (3) the relative indices-of-refraction of the optical medium and its surroundings and operates to produce both angularly-dependent subtractive-color filter reflection spectra and subtractive-color filter transmission spectra in accordance with its physical parameters. Such filters are suitable for use as authenticating devices for sheet-material authenticated items.
Abstract:
A composite video signal is coupled to the input of a tapped delay line of a vertical sync separator. A detector determines the presence of the vertical sync signal profile within the sampled portion of the composite video. An output signal is produced by the separator when the appropriate vertical sync profile is thus detected.

1,272,996. Cathode-ray tube circuits. R.C.A. CORPORATION. 19 May, 1969 [22 May, 1968], No. 25375/69. Heading H4T. In a dynamic vertical convergence correction system for a colour television display cathoderay tube the convergence coils are supplied with separate, individually adjustable, correction waveforms derived from respective circuits during alternate halves of the vertical scanning waveforms. Referring to Fig. 1, a (partially integrated) vertical scanning sawtooth derived from the vertical deflection circuits 11 is supplied via capacitor 13 and wave-shaping arrangement of resistor 15 and diode 17 to one end of the red and green convergence coils 23, 25 and is also differentiated by means of capacitor 31 and resistances 33, 35 to produce a substantially sawtooth voltage across 35. During the positive portion of the scanning sawtooth (i.e. the portion corresponding to the top half of the picture) diode 17 is non-conducting whilst diode conducts and brings the common end of the convergence coils to earth potential so that current flow therethrough due to the scanning sawtooth is prevented. However, because of the low impedance to earth of the common end of the coils the sawtooth across potentiometer 35 provides an adjustable correction current waveform which may be differentially adjusted by potentiometer 29 and which is terminated during the negative portion of the scanning sawtooth corresponding to the bottom half of the picture when diode 21 becomes non-conducting. At this point diode 17 conducts and the scanning sawtooth suitably shaped by diode 17 and resistor 15 provides a current flow through the coils, potentiometer 19 providing a master control and potentiometer 27 a differential control. Thus the (different) corrections required during the two halves of the scan may be independently controlled for the red and green convergence coils. The blue convergence coils 49 are supplied from potentiometer 47 which controls correction in the top half of the raster and by potentiometer 45 which controls correction in the bottom half of the raster.
