PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for reconstructing bit streams for a distributed video coding are provided to reduce the complexity of an encoder as well as a decoder. CONSTITUTION: In a DVC(Distributed Video Coding), a method and apparatus for reconstructing bit streams for a distributed video coding comprises steps of: restoring an image by decoding an existing bit streams and the received DVC bit streams; calculating motion information about a current image using the restored image; determining a data transmitting rate by comparing the difference between a current image and a second additional information image which is created by the existing DVC decoding method; and transmitting the DVC bit streams to the DVC decoder(110).

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for transmitting a stereoscopic image effectively are provided to ensure compatibility with various transmission protocols by defining a stereoscopic packet header and a stereoscopic video packet header in a stereoscopic packet. CONSTITUTION: A first packet header(510) is configured and contains additional information for the entire sequence of a stereoscopic image. A second packet header(520) has property information for an individual packet, and a video data unit(530) has left video and/or right video data according to the configuration method of the stereoscopic image described in the first packet header. A packet(500) is transmitted.

A cross exclusive OR based redundancy picture slice production method, a loss slice restoration device using the same, and a method thereof are provided to produce a cross exclusive OR based redundancy picture slice by associating basis picture slices through an exclusive OR operation according to a code set and edge pattern. A code set, recording the number of basis picture slices and number of redundancy picture slices, and an edge pattern, recording the location of the basis picture slice used for the production of the redundancy picture slice, are set(801). According to the set edge pattern, an exclusive OR operation is performed for basis picture slices of a corresponding location. Redundancy picture slices of the number corresponding to the set code set are generated(802). Corresponding production information is inserted into a header of the generated redundancy picture slice(803).
Abstract:
Provided is a method for performing hierarchical B picture-based coding on a video sequence using the structure of adaptively divided group of pictures (GOP). The method includes the steps of, for each predefined 2N frame-sized group of pictures (GOP) of the video sequence, (a) encoding the 2N frame-sized GOP of the video sequence based on each of the different GOP sizes from the maximum size, 2N, to the minimum size, 2M (M is an integer between 1 and N) and obtaining different values between frames reconstructed after the encoding is performed and frames after the hierarchical B-picture prediction is performed, based on each of the different GOP sizes; (b) selecting at least one sub-GOP based on the difference values obtained by encoding the 2N frame-sized GOP of the video sequence based on each of the different GOP sizes; and (c) generating a bitstream by encoding the 2N-frame-sized GOP based on the at least one selected sub-GOP. Thereby, the hierarchical B picture-based video coding is performed by adaptively dividing the GOP size based on performance and thereby obtains high coding efficiency.
