Abstract: The present invention, for a control method of an air conditioner including one or more outdoor units with a compressor, a first heat exchanger, and a first expanding valve connected through a refrigerant pipe and one or more indoor units with a second heat exchanger connected to the outdoor units through the refrigerant pipe, detects the surrounding temperature of the first heat exchanger and the temperature of a liquid pipe of the first heat exchanger, detects pressure of a refrigerant pipe on a high pressure side among refrigerant pipes, calculates saturation temperature based on the detected pressure, calculates an actual subcooling degree based on the temperature of the liquid pipe and the saturation temperature, calculates a target subcooling degree based on the surrounding temperature, primarily detects an optimum level of a refrigerant amount by using the actual subcooling degree and the target subcooling degree, determines design information of the refrigerant pipe and the second heat exchanger, secondarily detects the optimum level of the refrigerant amount based on the surrounding temperature and the actual subcooling degree when the design information does not exist, thirdly detects the optimum level of the refrigerant amount based on the surrounding temperature and the actual subcooling degree when the design information exists, and outputs the optimum level of the refrigerant amount. The present invention improves the accuracy and speed of detecting and charging the refrigerant amount, secures the reliability and performance of the air conditioner, enables an installer and a consumer to save costs for charging a refrigerant, and reduces time for installing and repairing the air conditioner and detecting the refrigerant amount.
