    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for reducing clipping noise in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to reduce clipping noise in a nyquist sample and over-sampled system in using a low clipping ratio. A receiving unit checks whether a clipped signal is received from a transmission end(601). When a clipped signal is received, the receiving unit demodulates and equalizes the received signal and performs hard decision to determine a transmission symbol, and stores the received signal in a buffer(603). The receiving unit performs an IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) on the determined transmission symbol to calculate a signal of a time zone in order to estimate a signal before being clipped at the transmission end(605). The receiving unit compares the size of amplification of the determined transmission symbol with a pre-set reference value(611). If the size of the amplification of the transmission symbol is greater than the reference value, the receiving unit re-configures a signal by using the amplification of the transmission symbol and the phase of the reception signal(613).
