Abstract: PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition and a health food for treating depression, anxiety disorder, or memory loss are provided to treat or alleviate depression, anxiety disorder, and memory loss and to suppress the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in neurons. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for treating depression, anxiety disorder, or memory loss contains ginsenoside Re. The composition additionally contains ginsenoside Rg3, Rb2, Rg1, Rd, or Rb1. The content of the additional ginsenoside is less than the content of ginsenoside Re. Depression or anxiety disorder is induced by 5-HT. Ginsenoside Re suppresses the absorption of 5-HT. A health food for treating depression, anxiety disorder, or memory loss contains ginsenoside Re.
