PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Umbilicaria Antarctica extract and compound isolated from the same is provided to suppress tyrosine phosphatase 1B and to prevent or treat diabetes and obesity. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating diabetes or obesity contains Umbilicaria Antarctica extract as an active ingredient. The Umbilicaria Antarctica extract is isolated using water, low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms or mixture thereof. The Umbilicaria Antarctica extract contains compounds of chemical formula 1-3 as an active ingredient. A method for preparing the compound of chemical formula 1-3 comprises: a step of extracting Umbilicaria Antarctica with methanol; a step of eluting methanol solution by column chromatography; and a step of eluting acetonitrile(CH_3CN) by HPLC. A functional food contains the Umbilicaria Antarctica extract as an active ingredient.

PURPOSE: A Pseudoaltermonas arctica KOPRI 2165-derived exopolysacchairde is provided to minimize tissue injury and to preserve a biological sample. CONSTITUTION: An exopolysaccharide is derived from Pseudoaltermonas arctica KOPRI 2165 is cryoprotective. The mole ratio of glucose and galactose is 1.5:1. A method for preparing the exopolysaccharide comprises: a step of culturing Pseudoaltermonas arctica KOPRI 2165; a step of adding alcohol to obtaining precipitate; a step of removing protein from the precipitate and adding alcohol; a step of dialyzing the re-precipitate and collecting materials from dialyzing diaphragm.

The disease caused by insulin signal transduction abnormality is diabetes. The disease caused by leptin signal transduction abnormality is obesity. A method for isolating the hydroxylbenzoic acid derivative comprises: a step of extracting dried Umbilicaria Antarctica sample using polar solvent selected from water, low alcohol of C1-C4, or mixture solvent thereof to obtain crude extract; and a step of fractioning crude extract through liquid chromatography.
