Abstract: A composition comprising pine needles or an extract thereof is provided to show low toxicity and resistance and have the antioxidative activity, thereby improving the quality of the meat, decreasing off-flavor, preventing various adult diseases, shortening the breeding period and reducing the feed cost. An additive for an animal feed comprises pine needles of Pinus densiflora, Pinus pentaphylla, Pinus taeda, Pinus sylvestris, Pinus densiflora var. umbraculifera, Pinus tabulaeformis var. mukdensis, Pinus rigida, Pinus thunbergii, Pinus pungens, Pinus banksiana, forma multicaulis, Pinus thunbergii parlatore, forma aurescens, forma anguina, var globosa, forma pendula, forma aggregata, forma biaggergata, or forma erecta, or a 50-80% methanol extract thereof having the antioxidative activity. An animal feed composition comprises the animal feed additive.

Abstract: A method of breeding an animal by adding an extract of needles of Pinus densiflora(red pine) to feed and then feeding to the animal is provided to improve meat quality, to reduce off-flavor and produces functional products. An animal is bread by adding 5 to 10% by weight of pine needle extract to feed and then feeding to an animal. The pine needle extract is obtained by extracting red pine needles in methanol and extracting. Animal meat and its by-products are horse meat, mutton, artificial meat and rabbit meat.
