Abstract:
Articles are provided, having a multilayer structure including (a) a first layer formed from polyolefin and including undercut features formed on and extending from an integral backing; (b) a second layer including an adhesive having a Shore D hardness of greater than 59 when cured; and (c) a third layer including a substrate. The second layer is interlocked with the undercut features, the third layer is adhered to the adhesive, and the second layer is disposed between the first layer and the third layer. A method is also provided including (a) depositing a polyolefin resin into a mold cavity to form a first layer including undercut features; (b) demolding the first layer from the mold cavity at a rate of at least 150 millimeters per minute; (c) applying a curable adhesive to the undercut features to form a second layer attached to the first layer; and (d) attaching a third layer including a substrate to the second layer.
Abstract:
A pressure-sensitive adhesive composition comprises a polyvinyl ether polymer. The polyvinyl ether polymer comprises 2-alkylalkoxyethylene monomeric units independently represented by the formula wherein R 1 and R 2 represent alkyl groups, and wherein taken together R 1 and R 2 have from 8 to 30 carbon atoms. An adhesive article comprises a layer of the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition on a substrate.
Abstract:
Pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions and articles containing the pressure-sensitive adhesives are provided. The pressure-sensitive adhesives contain an (meth)acrylic-based elastomeric material prepared an alkyl (meth)acrylate having an alkyl groups that is branched and that contains at least 14 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
The invention features dental compositions comprising at least one hybrid monomer that comprises a cyclic allylic sulfide moiety attached to a (meth)acryloyl moiety. These two functional moieties are typically joined either directly to each via a chemical bond or through some chemical structure or spacer molecule. The composition may optionally contain additional polymerizable compounds, such as ethylenically unsaturated compounds, that are typically used in dental compositions.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel compositions prepared from a first oligomer containing reactive functional groups capable of reaction at effective rates (at normal processing temperatures) with a co-reactive second component possessing functionality that is complementary to that of the first oligomer. The compositions may be used as coatings, including hard surface coatings, clear coatings, powder coatings and pattern coatings; as adhesives, including pressure sensitive adhesives and not melt adhesives; as sealants; as optical coatings; as blown microfibers (BMF); as high refractive index optical materials; as barrier films; in microreplication; as low adhesion backsizes, (LABs) and release coatings.
Abstract:
The tape incudes a water vapor-permeable air and water barrier article and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer. The air and water barrier article includes a fibrous layer having first and second major surfaces and a polymeric layer on a first major surface of the fibrous layer that penetrates into the fibrous layer but leaves at least some fibers exposed on the second major surface. The pressure sensitive adhesive layer is on the polymeric layer of the air and water barrier article. The tape can retain greater than 50 percent by weight of mortar applied according to the Vertical Mortar Receptivity Evaluation. The article includes a substrate, the tape, and a composite layer comprising at least one of gypsum, lime, or cement. The composite layer is at least one of dried or cured on the second major surface of the fibrous layer. Methods of making the article are also described.
Abstract:
Novel polymerizable ionic liquid compounds, and polymerizable compositions are described. The compositions comprise an acid functional monomer or acid-functional copolymer (or conjugate base thereof), and an imidazole compound (or conjugate acid thereof). The polymerizable compositions may be cast and cured to form a coating on a substrate, the coating capable of swelling on exposure to water so as to release from that substrate.
Abstract:
A film is described comprising a (meth)acrylic polymer and polyvinyl acetal polymer composition. A layer of an adhesive composition is disposed proximate the film. The adhesive composition has a tensile elastic modulus of less than 1 MPa at 25°C and 1 hertz.
Abstract:
A film is described comprising a first film layer having a Tg ranging from 30°C to 60°C. The first film layer comprises a (meth)acrylic polymer and polyvinyl acetal polymer composition. The film further comprises a second layer proximate the first film layer. The second layer is different than the first film layer. The second may be a cured (meth)acrylic polymer film or coating; a backing such as thermoplastic polymer, woven or nonwoven fabrics, metal foils, paper, foams; or a coverfilm such as a fluoropolymer.
