    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for measuring gas consumption by means of a gas meter (1). A gas meter (1) comprising a thermal flow senso r (1a) for determining mass flow signals (SM) and a calibrating device used as an energy measuring appliance for emitting energy value signals (SE) is know n. According to the invention, a gas type is determined by the gas meter (1) insofar as combustible and non-combustible gas mixtures (3) are differentiated. For a non-combustible gas mixture (3), the gas meter (1) is operated with calibration in mass units or units of volume under standard conditions (1/min), and for a combustible gas mixture (3), with calibration in energy units (kWh). Forms of embodiment include, inter alia, the measurement of a parameter (.lambda., .alpha., c, .eta.) of the gas (3) in order to determine the gas type; a gas quality sensor (1a) with the same structure as the thermal flow sensor (1a); and longer measuring intervals for a non- combustible gas (3) and shorter measuring intervals for a combustible gas (3 ). The advantages of the invention are, inter alia, reliable energy measurement as a result of the automatic differentiation between a non-accountable gas ( 3) and a high-quality useful gas (3); recognition of manipulation attempts; and automatic calorific value tracking even without calorific value measurement.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for fluorescence measurement of oil residues in water. The core of the invention is to use a powerful, narrow-band excimer lamp to excite intensive fluorescence radiation to detect the latter with a photodiode or the like, and to determine the oil concentration therefrom. The excimer lamp can be designed as a flat radiator a hollow cylindrical inner radiator or a tubular radiator, and can be combined with a through-flow or free fall measuring cell. The excimer lamp is advantageously operated in a pulsed or modulated fashion, the fluorescence radiation is measured at a right angle to the exciting radiation, the emitted and/or transmitted exciting light is monitored with the detectors, and a redundant measuring arrangement with a plurality of excimer lamps and fluorescence detectors is provided. The sensor is distinguished by reliability, freedom from maintenance and a long service life.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a gas meter for determining the consumption of a ga s mixture. The inventive gas meter determines sensor signal values proportionately in relation to a throughflow rate and is adjusted for use as an energy-measuring device. The adjustment is based on a base mixture. When the consumption of gas is measured, a measured energy consumption value is multiplied with a correction factor which takes into account the heating val ue of a particular gas mixture at least approximately. This heating value is determined by an external unit. This enables the effective energy relationsh ip to be established for the gas consumption using a simple, economical gas meter. An invoice can then be produced according to this relationship.
