Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process for various metal sulfides each used as a hydrogenation catalyst having capability of effecting hydrogenation/ring-opening of an aromatic ring and also to provide a hydrogenation catalyst consisting of such a metal sulfide. SOLUTION: This production process for tungsten - chromium - zinc multiple sulfide comprises: adding an ammonium thiotangustate aqueous solution to zinc hydroxychromate hydrate in an amount sufficient to provide a W/(Zn+Cr) atomic ratio of 0.003-0.05; mixing and agitating them, to evaporate water in the resulting mixture and to obtain a solid material; and then, subjecting the solid material to reductive decomposition. The production process for this nickel - tungsten - chromium - zinc multiple sulfide hydrogenation catalyst comprises: adding an ammonium thiotangustate aqueous solution to zinc hydroxychromate hydrate in an amount sufficient to provide a W/(Zn+Cr) atomic ratio of 0.003-0.05 to obtain a mixture; further adding a nickel salt aqueous solution to the mixture in an amount sufficient to provide an Ni/W atomic ratio of

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a high yield and to enable continuous operation and mass production by decomposing a hydrocarbon at a high temperature on a catalyst comprising metal molybdenum or a metal molybdenum-containing material to deposit carbon nanotubes on the catalyst. SOLUTION: A catalyst comprising metal molybdenum or a metal molybdenum-containing material, preferably a catalyst obtained by supporting metal molybdenum on an inorganic support is put in a reactor and a hydrocarbon is decomposed in the reactor at 800-1,200 deg.C to deposit carbon nanotubes on the catalyst. The catalyst with the deposited carbon nanotubes is discharged from the reactor. The carbon nanotubes are continuously produced by combining the depositing and discharging steps. In other way, a hydrocarbon oil containing the catalyst is spouted into a reactor kept at 800-1,200 deg.C and the hydrocarbon is decomposed to form carbon nanotubes.
