Abstract: Carbon nanotubes are produced by successively repositioning an axially extending rod-like carbonaceous anode (6) relative to a cathode surface (2a) such that a tip end surface of the anode (6a) successively faces on different portions of the cathode surface while impressing a direct current voltage therebetween, so that an arc discharge occurs with the simultaneous formation of carbonaceous deposits containing carbon nanotubes on each of the portions of the cathode surface. The carbonaceous deposits are scraped and collected. A device for carrying out the above method includes a driving member (5) for displacing the cathode surface relative to the anode.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aerogel of an excellent bulk body free from the generation of shrinkage and crack by holding a wet gel body of a metal oxide, a solvent and a specific material under a prescribed condition and removing the solvent to dry the wet gel body. SOLUTION: The wet gel body of the metal oxide (e.g. a silica wet gel body obtained by impregnating the gel body, which is obtained by mixing tetramethoxysilane with a methanol/ammonia water, pouring to a prescribed shaped vessel and allowing to stand, with methanol to remove an unreacted component), the solvent (e.g. methanol) and a granular zeolite having preferably 2-3mm average particle diameter are held under the critical condition or super critical condition (e.g. 280 deg.C 140atm) of the solvent preferably for 1-3hr and after that, the solvent is gradually released and removed to dry the wet gel body.

CONSTITUTION:In a burning method of a granulated material of coal ash carried out by laminating the granulated article of coal ash on a moving grate of a burning furnace isolated from atmosphere and burning the granulated article while forming a stream passing through the layer from the upper side to lower side, softening characteristics of coal ash which becomes a main raw material of the granulated article are measured and the granulated material is burned at a temperature capable of giving shrinkage ratio of the granulated article corresponding to 5-60% of maximum shrinkage ratio (shrinkage ratio in softening temperature).
