    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the production process of well-oriented platelike spinel-type ferrite powdery particles which are appropriately used as a radio wave absorptive material or electromagnetic-shielding material. SOLUTION: This production process for producing the objective platelike spinel-type ferrite powdery particles, consists of a first stage and a second stage. The first stage comprises: adding a water-soluble salt of Ni or its aqueous solution to an aqueous liquid suspension of platelike hematite powdery particles; thereafter, adjusting the pH of the resulting suspension to 9.0-14.0; aging this suspension at 0-30 deg.C to coat the surface of each of platelike hematite particles with hydroxide or oxide of Ni; and thereafter, calcining the coated hematite particles at 500-700 deg.C by heating them to obtain powdery particles of an Ni-containing platelike calcined material. The second stage comprises: adding a water-soluble salt of Ni or its aqueous solution to an aqueous liquid suspension of the Ni-containing platelike calcined material powdery particles obtained in the stage 1; thereafter, adjusting the pH of the resulting suspension to 9.0-14.0; aging this suspension at 0-30 deg.C to coat the surface of each of the Ni-containing platelike calcined material powdery particles with hydroxide or oxide of Ni; and thereafter, firing the coated powdery particles at 800-1,200 deg.C by heating them to obtain platelike spinel-type ferrite powdery particles.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a flaky alumina pigment which has good coatability and high-temp. stability and is useful as a pigment for coating materials and potteries by treating the surface of a flaky alumina pigment with a particular metal or metallic compd. CONSTITUTION:A flaky alumina pigment comprising a flaky alumina and a color compd. metal oxide reacted with and present on the surface of the flaky alumina. This flaky alumina pigment is prepd. by coating a flaky alumina with a metal or a metallic compd. capable of reacting with alumina to develop a color and calcining the coated flaky alumina at a high temp. Pref., the flaky glumina has a particle diameter of 0.1 to 20mum and an aspect ratio of 2 to 50. The color compd. metal oxide is a compd. comprising alumina and a metal oxide excluding alumina. The metal oxide is at least one member selected from oxides of Mg, Zn, Mn, Ni, Co, Ti, Fe, Cr, Cu, and V. The color metal oxide is pref. of a spinel crystalline structure.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To evenly distribute plate-shape particles so as to improve the sharpness of a grinding wheel by rotating a mixture of binder resin and plate-shape alumina particles at high speed, and orienting the plate-shape alumina particles by means of centrifugal force, thus molding the grinding wheel. CONSTITUTION:Fine plate-shape alumina (alpha-Al2O3) particles are obtained through a hydrothermal treatment and are mixed with a binder resin (binding agent) and this mixture is heated to melt the binder resin and the molten mixture is fed from a feeding portion. While the mixture is being fed, a lower mold is rotated relative to a upper mold and a base body is disposed between the upper mold the lower mold. The molten mixture fed from the feeding portion of the die body held in place is fed into a gap formed between the base body and the upper mold and is forced to collide with each other by a centrifugal force caused by rotation of the lower mold and the alumina particles in the molten mixture are oriented in the vertical direction by this collision. Cooling water is fed into the cooling portion of the lower mold and the oriented alumina particles are sequentially hardened by the binder resin to form an alumina grinding wheel.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly plastic alumina paste useful as a ceramic stock by incorporating alumina particles with agar-agar. SOLUTION: This highly plastic alumina paste is obtained by melting agar powder under boiling followed by cooling to form agar gel which is then kneaded with alumina particles; alternatively, by adding alumina particles to an aqueous solution of agar powder which is melted under boiling in advance, followed by cooling the system to effect coating the alumina surface with agar-agar followed by dehydration; wherein it is preferable that the agar-agar to be used as a starting material is >=5 g/cm2 in jelly strength, and the agar content of the final alumina paste is 0.5-10 wt.%. This alumina paste obtained by mixing (kneading) process is capable of controlling its pore size depending on its gel size, therefore being advantageous for making porous forms; whereas another version of this alumina paste obtained by coating process is hard to produce pores because the agar-agar as binder uniformly and extremely thinly adheres to the alumina, therefore affording a dense sintered compact, dense/high- density molded form or molded form with controlled pore size. The above method for producing this alumina paste is effective in cost reduction and operability improvement.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the plasticity of natural kaolinite and artificial kaolinite. SOLUTION: A kaolinite is brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing NH4 to adsorb NH4 on the surface of the kaolinite. The kaolinite is brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing a divalent cation and the NH4 adsorbed on the surface of the kaolinite is substituted with the divalent cation. The aqueous solution containing NH4 is an aqueous solution of CH3 COONH4 or an aqueous solution of NH4 Cl and Mg or Ca is used as the divalent cation.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a composition for a plastic molding enabling the simplification of a fat removing process after an injection molding by adding polysaccharide high molecular materials to a highly dispersed aqueous slurry of boron nitride-based ceramic powder of a high concentration showing almost no plasticity, blending, kneading and maturing. CONSTITUTION: This composition for a plastic molding is obtained by adding a dispersing agent to a silicon nitride-based ceramic powder and a sintering assistant, adding polysaccharide high molecular materials to a highly dispersed aqueous slurry of a high concentration prepared by using water as a solvent, blending, kneading and maturing. By using this composition for plastic molding, since water as the solvent evaporates during a drying process and fine pores are produced in the molding material, troubles such as swelling or cracking in the molded product due to the thermal decomposition of organic matters do not occur.
