Abstract:
A method performed by an accessory 104, e.g. AM/FM or high definition (HDTV) receiver, connected to portable media device (PMD) 102, comprises: determining whether a received broadcast track will be tagged, generating a tag comprising track identifying information, instructing connected PMD to open a tag file in a store, and writing the tag to the file. Also independently claimed is a similar method simply instructing the PMD to save the tag, omitting the 'file open' step. Also, a method including receiving plural tracks, with metadata, tagging a currently playing track, and instructing the PMD to open a tag file for a tag record containing a metadata portion for the current track. In addition, an accessory for a PMD, including a tag extraction engine; a method wherein a handle for a tag file is returned from media device to accessory; a method including communicating a tag identification information portion via a media asset delivery service; and a media asset access method generating an entry in a list of media assets. Further methods acquire a media asset including affiliate identifier requests that identify a referral source from which a client device obtained a unique asset (track) associated identifier.
Abstract:
A method and system in accordance with the present invention provides a system that allows a portable media player to control settings of portable media player when receiving video from an accessory, to control playback of the portable media player and to provide for navigation between video tracks in a hierarchical fashion. In so doing, a portable media player can then utilize this information to provide for the maximum functionality of the accessory when connected to the portable media player.
Abstract:
A method, system, and connector interface for authenticating an accessory . A method includes performing an authentication operation and allowing the accessory to access the media player during the authentication operation; if the authentication operation fails, the accessory is locked out from any fu rther access to the media player. The authentication operation can include, e.g., validating authentication information included in an authentication ce rtificate provided by the accessory and/or validating a digital signature pr ovided by the accessory. The media player and accessory may utilize a plural ity of commands in a variety of environments such as within a connector inte rface system environment to control access to the media player.
Abstract:
A method and system for allowing a media player to transfer digital audio to an accessory is disclosed. The method and system comprises sending a play command to the media player; returning information about the media player; and providing digital audio to the accessory based upon the information about the media player. In a system and method in accordance with the present invention a plurality of commands allow a media player to transfer digital audio to an accessory. These commands are used by the media player to gather a list of supported sample rates from the accessory and to inform the accessory of the media player's information.
Abstract:
An accessory communicates with a PMD to store tags associated with broadcasts in a file maintained in a storage medium of the accessory, where the tags contain information descriptive of a subset of the broadcast content. In one embodiment, the accessory sends commands to the PMD to create or open a tag file that resides on the PMD, write one or more tags to the file, and close the file. Stored tags can be used to access (e.g., purchase) tagged content by communicating with a media asset delivery service either via a host computer or directly from the PMD.

A method, system, and connector interface for authenticating an accessory. A method includes performing an authentication operation and allowing the accessory to access the media player during the authentication operation; if the authentication operation fails, the accessory is locked out from any further access to the media player. The authentication operation can include, e.g., validating authentication information included in an authentication certificate provided by the accessory and/or validating a digital signature provided by the accessory. The media player and accessory may utilize a plurality of commands in a variety of environments such as within a connector interface system environment to control access to the media player.
Abstract:
A consumer electronic product that includes a media player arranged to process a selected one of a plurality of digital media files stored therein and a media delivery accessory unit detachedly connected to the media player arranged to broadcast the processed digital media file. When the consumer electronic product is in a DC mode, the consumer electronic product controls a transfer of an amount of charge between the media delivery accessory and the media player. In one embodiment, the amount of charge is sufficient to for the consumer electronic product to operate for a predetermined amount of time. In another embodiment, the amount of charge is sufficient for to maximize an amount of time that the media player and media delivery accessory can operate.
