Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform adaptive control over the directivity of an array antenna so that a main beam is set to the direction of a desired wave and null is set to the direction of an interference wave. SOLUTION: According to a signal y(t) received by an driven element A0 of an ESPAR (Electronically Steerable Passive Array Radiator) antenna system 100, an adaptive control type controller 20 calculates and sets the reactance values of variable reactance elements 12-1 to 12-6 for setting the main beam of the ESPAR antenna system 100 to the direction of the desired wave and null to the direction of interference so that the value of a target function (number 12) represented by only the receive signal y(t) becomes maximum by using an iterant numeral solution method of a nonlinear programming method, e.g. a steepest-gradient method.
