Abstract: Method for simulation of mass transport controlled separation processes in which a core-film layer is used to describe a mass exchange taking place at a phase border (P). According to the approach, an iterative solution of an implicit differential equation system is undertaken for discretization of an observed transfer area (10) of the core-film layer, from which the differential equation system, especially based on the Stefan-Maxwell equation, is generated. An independent claim is made for a device for simulation of mass transport controlled separation processes in which a core-film layer is used to describe a mass exchange taking place at a phase border.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for deacidifying a fluid stream containing acidic gases as contaminants, according to which the fluid stream is brought into intimate contact with a washing liquid in at least one absorption step. Said washing liquid represents an aqueous solution containing a) tertiary aliphatic alkanolamines (alkanolamine A), at least 30 percent by weight of said tertiary aliphatic alkanolamines being 3-dimethylamino-1-propanol, and b) secondary aliphatic amines (activator B), at least 20 percent by weight of said secondary aliphatic amines being piperazin. The fluid stream which has been essentially purified of the acidic gases is then separated from the washing liquid that is loaded with acidic gases.

Abstract: A process for the recovery of carbon dioxide, comprising: (a) an absorption step of bringing a carbon dioxide-containing gaseous feed stream into gas- liquid contact with an absorbing fluid, whereby at least a portion of the carbon dioxide present in the gaseous stream is absorbed into the absorbing fluid to produce (i) a refined gaseous stream having a reduced carbon dioxide content and (ii) an carbon dioxide-rich absorbing fluid, (b) a regeneration step of treating the carbon dioxide-rich absorbing fluid at a pressure of greater than 3 bar (absolute pressure) so as to liberate carbon dioxide and regenerate a carbon dioxide-lean absorbing fluid which is recycled for use in the absorption step, wherein the absorbing fluid is an aqueous amine solution containing a tertiary aliphatic alkanol amine and an effective amount of a carbon dioxide absorption promoter, the tertiary aliphatic alkanol amine showing little decomposition under specified conditions of temperature and pressure under co-existence with carbon dioxide. The tertiary aliphatic alkanol amine does not contain, in its molecular structure, a nitrogen atom that is substituted by more than one 2-hydroxyethyl moieties, or a nitrogen atom that is substituted by both a 2-hydroxyethyl moiety and a methyl moiety. Preferred tertiary aliphatic alkanol amines are selected from the group consisting of N-ethyl-diethanolamine, 2-(dimethylamino)-ethanol, 2- (diethylamino)-ethanol, 3-(dimethylamino)-1-propanol, 3-(diethylamino)-1- propanol, 1-(dimethylamino)-2-propanol, and 2-(diisopropylamino)-ethanol.

Abstract: Absorbent (I) for removing acid gases (II) from fluids comprises (a) tertiary alkanolamine(s) and (b) an amine selected from hydroxyethylpiperazine, bis(hydroxyethylpiperazine or a mixture of these. An independent claim is also included for a process for absorption of (II) from fluid streams by contacting the fluid stream with absorbent (I) to give a fluid stream depleted in (II) and (I) charged with (II).

Abstract: Removing acid gases comprising at least 50 mole% hydrogen sulfide from a fluid stream comprises contacting the fluid stream with a liquid absorbent, separating the loaded absorbent into an acid gas stream at 3-30 bar and a regenerated absorbent stream by heating and optionally expansion or stripping, cooling the regenerated absorbent by heat exchange with the loaded absorbent, and recycling the regenerated absorbent to the absorption step.

Abstract: Deacidifying a fluid stream containing acid gas impurities by contacting the fluid stream with an absorbent at 0.5-20 bar in at least one absorption stage involves performing at least one absorption stage in an inert scrubber column with a plastic or rubber interior surface. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for carrying out the process, comprising one or more series-connected scrubber columns filled with wash solution, at least one of the columns being an inert scrubber column with a plastic or rubber interior surface.
