Abstract: Novel 13-oxo.-bicyclo 10,3,0 pentadecanes or pentadecanes 1(12) are of formula (I) (where R1 is CH3 or C2H5 and A and B are either both H or form a double bond). (I), esp. when R1=CH3, have a fine, adherent musk odour. The odour of (I) is extremely close to best available musk odourants currently available. They are also intermediate for other novel, odoriferous cpds. as well as providing a synthetic route for the prodn. of muscone.

Abstract: 14-Me-bicyclo-(19,3,0)-pentadecene- 1(12) having formula (I) is prepd by (A) a phase transfer alkylotion reaction of cyclododecanone (II) with an allyl halide (III) (where X is Cl, Br, or I); (B) O3-dissociation of the 2-(2'-methylene-1'-propyl)-cyclododecanone (IV) obtd to form 2-(2'-oxo-1'-propyl)-cyclododecanone (V): (C) cyolisation of (V) to bicyclo (10,3,0)-pentadeca-15-en-14-one (VI); (D) reaction of (VI), opt after hydrogenation to bicyclo(10,3,0)-pentadecan-14-one, (VIa), with an MeMg halide, to form the new bicyclic alcohols (VII) or (VIIa); (E) dehydration of the alcohols to the new methylated bicyclic cpds. (VIII) or (VIIIa); (F) hydrogenation of the 14-Me-bicyclo (10.3,0)-pentadeca- 1(12).14 -diene (VIII) or G isomerisation of the 14-Me-bicyclo-(10,3,0)-pentadeca-14-ene (VIIIa) by heting with acids. (I) is an intermediate in muscone musk perfume prepn. and allows a simple prepn of muscone.

Abstract: (beta-damascone), (Ia), and 2,6,6-trimethyl-1-crotonyl-cyclohexa-1,3-diene, (beta-damascenone), (Ib), are prepd. by (i) reacting 2,6,6-trimethyl-cyclohexanone (IIa) or -cyclohexenone (IIb) with 3,5-dimethyl-4,6-dioxa-hept-1-yne (III) in the presence of a strong base pref. KOH, and (ii) treating the prod., at 45-100 degrees C, with an acid catalyst, (A), having acid strength equal to or higher than that of HCOOH. (Ia) and (Ib) are perfumes and aroma materials for cosmetic compsns. and foods. The formation of spiro cpds. is suppressed. (Ia) and (Ib) are obtd. in high yields, e.g. 45-55% (Ia) or 94% (Ib), w.r.t. diol prod. of (II) and (III). The base in step (i) may be an alkali metal hydroxide. Hydrocarbons and ethers may be used as solvents.

Abstract: New 3-oxo-4-dimethylaminomethylidene-tetrahydrofurans have formula (I): (where R1 and R2 are H, Me or Et). The use of (I) to prepare 3,4-dioxo-tetrahydrofurans having formula (IV), by oxidn. with singlet-O, is claimed. (I) can be used as aromatising materials and have a malty, bread-like odour, similar to, but weaker than, that of (IV). (IV) are known aroma materials. (I) can be prepd. economically, in good yields, e.g. 80-90%. Conversion to (IV) is quantitative. In an example, 3-oxo-2,5-dimethyl-4-dimethylamino-methylidene tetrahydrofuran was prepd. by stirring 3-oxo-2,5-dimethyl-tetrahydrofuran with either (a) tert. butoxy-bis-(dimethylamino)-methane or (b) N,N-dimethyl-formamide-dimethyl acetal.

Abstract: Novel cyclic crotonic or butyric acid esters are of formula CH3-CHY-CHY-CO-OR, (I) (where Y is H or a double bond between the resp. C atoms; R1 is and R2-7 are H, CH3 or C2H5, with the proviso that >=2 are not H). The cpds. have useful odoriferous properties, esp. frimity notes reminiscent of raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, apples and plums. They may thus be used as aromatic constituents of foodstuffs, beverages, confections, feedstuffs, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics (soaps, bath additives), detergents and perfumes.
