Abstract: The invention comprises dyes, free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups, of formula where Ar is a phenyl radical free from a cyano group o to the azo group and free from a group attached by way of sulphur o to the azo group and substituted by at least one halogen atom and/or alkoxy, nitro, acylamino, trifluoromethyl, cyano, alkylsulphonyl and/or, possibly substituted, sulphonamide group, X is H or a substituent on the benzene nucleus which does not interfere with the initial formation of the dye, alk1 is a propylene radical alk2 is a divalent alkylene residue of 2-4 carbon atoms and R is an alkyl group of 1-5 carbon atoms. The dyes are made by diazotising an appropriate aniline derivative and coupling with the required di-N-substituted aniline. Indicated values for X are halogen, alkoxy, alkyl, acylamino and trifluoromethyl. Specified coupling components are N-g -cyanopropyl-N-b -acetoxyethyl- and acetoxypropyl-benzenes, their 3-methyl and -chloro-derivatives and the corresponding propionyl-, butyryl- and isobutyryl-oxy-derivatives. The dyes colour textile materials derived from cellulose ethers and esters, including triacetyl cellulose, linear polyamides, e.g. polycaprolactam and polyhexamethylene diamine adipate, linear polyesters, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, and linear polymers of acrylonitrile. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring processes red and yellow shades being obtained. Specification 819,664 is referred to.

Abstract: In the dyeing or printing of linear aromatic polyester fibres or films with disperse dyestuffs, the materials are treated, before or during the dyeing or printing operation, with diphenylsulphone or a substitution product thereof, such as 4-chlordiphenylsulphone, 4,41-dichlordiphenylsulphone, 4,41-dibromdiphenylsulphone or 4 - hydroxy - 41 - brom - diphenylsulphone. The diphenylsulphone may be added to the dyebath or pretreatment bath in finely-divided form or as a solution in, for example, dimethylformamide or acetone. Examples of dyeing and printing are given. A dyestuff preparation contains, in addition to the disperse dyestuff and diphenylsulphone or a derivative thereof, dispersing agents such as a naphthalene sulphonic acid-formaldehyde condensation product, ethoxylation products of alcohols, the sodium salt of isopropylnaphthalene sulphonic acid in admixture with glue, and dyeing adjuvants such as sodium sulphate, chloride or acetate, an alkali metal phosphate, benzyl alcohol, the sodium salt of mono- or di-benzylsulphanilic acid, the sodium salt of naphthalene sulphonic acid and sulphanilic acid.ALSO:In the dyeing of aromatic polyester powders with disperse dyestuffs, the powders are treated before or during the dyeing operation with diphenylsulphone or a substitution product thereof such as 4-chloro-, 4,41-dichloro-, 4,41 - dibromo - or 4 - hydroxy - 41 - bromodiphenyl-sulphone.
