    Abstract: 1326717 2,2 - dialkyl - 3 - acyloxypropanols BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 6 Jan 1971 [7 Jan 1970] 576/71 Heading C2C 2,2 - dialkyl - 3 - acyloxypropanols of general formula where R 1 denotes hydrogen or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical and R 2 and R 3 separately denote identical or different aliphatic radicals or jointly with the adjacent carbon atom from a cycloaliphatic ring, are prepared by reacting a carboxylic acid R 1 COOH with formaldehyde and a secondary aldehyde in the presence of a strong acid while removing water formed and present at the beginning of the reaction. The formaldehyde may be added as paraformaldehyde, trioxan or in the form of an aqueous formaldehyde solution and a solvent forming an azeotrope with water may be used. Many starting materials are listed and the acid catalysts may be trichloracetic, phosphoric, cyanoacetic, o-bromobenzoic, p-chlorobenzoic, benzene and p-toluenesulphonic, sulphuric and phosphoric acids. Examples describe the preparation of acetoxypivaldehyde, tri-, di- and mono-chloroacetoxypivaldehyde, αα-dichloropropionyloxy-pivaldehyde, isobutyryloxypivaldehyde, 2 - methyl- 2 - n - propyl - 3 - acetoxypropanol, 2 - ethyl- 2 - n - butyl - 3 - acetoxypropanal, 1- acetoxymethyl hexahydrobenzaldehyde, benzoyloxypivaldehyde, and 3-4- and 2-4-dichlorobenzoyloxypivaldehyde.

    Abstract: 1405264 Aerating liquids BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 13 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 47273/72 Divided out of 1303163 Heading B1C In a process for oxygenating a body of liquid e.g. waste liquid containing activated sludge, air is introduced into the body of liquid together with a submerged jet of the liquid partly by the inductive action of the jet and partly by a pump. The jet of liquid having a speed of from 5 to 100 metres per second and being directed into an open-ended confined mixing zone 3 of hydraulic diameter 2 to 20 times the diameter of the liquid nozzle 1 and of length 2 to 30 times its hydraulic diameter. Liquid from the vessel 4 is circulated by a pump 7 and fresh waste liquor may be introduced continuously by a line 8, treated liquor overflowing at 5 to settling tanks. The combined air/liquid jet nozzle 1 may be located horizontally, vertically or at any intermediate position.

    Abstract: The molecular cpd. of 1 mol. of 2,6-dimethyl-3,5-dichloro-benzoquinone and 2 mol of 2,6-dimethyl-3,4,5-trichlorophenol is produced in good yield and purity by reacting 2,6-dimethyl-4-t-butyl-phenol with SO2Cl2 at >50 degrees C. The product has fungicidal and insecticidal activity and can be used as a bactericide fungicide and wood-preservative.
