    Abstract: Unsaturated polyester resin systems contain (1) at least one monomeric ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable compound and (2) at least one resinous ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable polyester containing, connected via ester linkages (a) radicals of dibasic carboxylic acids, (b) radicals of dihydric alcohols and optionally (c) radicals of other carboxylic acids and/or (d) radicals of other alcohols, at least a portion of the radicals of dibasic carboxylic acids being radicals of cyclohexene-1-dicarboxylic acid-4,5 radicals and at least part of the radicals of the polyester which are not cyclohexene-1-dicarboxyli acid-4,5 radicals having ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable groups, wherein said unsaturated polyester resins contain polyesters (2) whose hydroxyl number (HN) and acid number (AN) are in a ratio of (HN): (AN) of less than 1, preferably less than 0.2. In general the mean molecular weight of the polyesters is between 1000 and 5000 and, if desired, a portion of these polyesters in the polyester resins may be replaced by one or more conventional polyesters. Lists of compounds (1), (2a) (2b) (2c) and (2d) are given, but the preferred polyesters (2) are prepared from radicals of cyclohexene-1-dicarboxylic acid-4,5 (a1) and radicals of maleic acid (a2) and/or radicals of fumaric acid (a3) in the molar ratio of (a1): [(a2) + (a3)] of 1:3 to 1:0.5, and as radicals (b) radicals of aliphatic ether diols of the type 3-monooxaalkanediols 3,6-dioxaalkanediols and 3,6,9-trioxaalkanediols having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, preferably radicals of 3-oxapentanediol-1,5. Other preferred polyesters (2) are prepared from cyclohexene-1-dicarboxylic acid-4,5 as radicals (a) and as radicals (b) radicals of dihydric aliphatic ether diols of the type mono-(allyloxy)-alkanediols and di-(allyloxy)-alkane diols having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, e.g. glycerine monoallyl ether radicals and/or pentaerythritol diallyl ether radicals.
